AI is becoming remarkably good at econometric coding. But how good? We tested 14,400 runs across 40 econometric tasks in Stata, R, and Python. Success rates jump from 79% with chatbots to 97% with coding agents. It's no longer about writing better prompts. It's about letting agents execute, test, and revise their own code.

GDP growth is actually very good and we should aim for more of it
French Presidential Candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon: Gross domestic product. I dig a hole, GDP goes up. I fill it in, GDP goes up. I get into my car, drive into a wall, GDP goes up because we have to rebuild the wall and repair the car. GDP is just a monetary valuation.

"If socialism is not a direct child of the French Revolution, it springs at least from that rationalism which distinguished most of the French political thinkers of the period from the contemporary English liberalism of Hume and Smith" - F.A. Hayek
