The benefit will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Pho Ngon, 10782 Bellaire Blvd., Suite A, Houston, Texas 77072. Under the banner “Strength • Justice • Family — A Community United for Justice,” Tran will appear with other featured participants identified by event organizers, including Aliza Dutt, Hieu Huynh and family, and Leticia Ybarra, President of Texas Crime Victims United. Veterans for America First and Latinos for America First are joining together in support of Nhân Le, his family, and a Houston community demanding justice and accountability. Latinos for America First is an active federal political action committee whose stated mission includes advocating for conservative policies and America First candidates. VFAF announced Nick Tran as President of its Texas State Chapter on July 8, 2026, expanding the national veterans organization's grassroots leadership in Texas. THE STORY BEHIND THE BENEFIT The August 22 benefit follows extensive Houston media coverage of the horrific attack that left Nhân Le critically injured and on life support. According to the Houston Chronicle, authorities allege that 28-year-old Joshua McDaniel attacked Le with a pipe on July 17, 2026, outside a business in northwest Harris County. Le suffered catastrophic injuries and was hospitalized at HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest. McDaniel was charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury. The case attracted additional public attention because authorities accused McDaniel of attacking several other people during approximately the same period. Court records reviewed by the Chronicle also showed a criminal history dating to 2015, including previous assault and robbery cases. A prior assault charge involving an elderly man had been dismissed in November 2025 when McDaniel was referred to a mental-health diversion center. That history has fueled public debate among victims' advocates over accountability, diversion programs, public safety, and the handling of repeat violent offenders. Nhân's brother, Hieu Huynh, has become a public voice for his family. He described his brother to the media as “really gentle and polite” and said Nhân had never committed a crime. Standing outside the hospital, Huynh called for justice and said he wanted to raise his voice so that what happened to his brother would not happen again.
