A giant of the Mara has fallen. Fred, an iconic Mara Tusker, was found dead today of natural causes. Well into his fifth decade, Fred served as a symbol of the success @KWSKenya and Mara Elephant Project achieved in combatting ivory poaching over the last 15 years. Fred’s counterparts didn’t live to see old age. How lucky we are that he did. Collared since 2013, his tracking informed an approach that other Tuskers across Kenya benefited from. Even in death, Fred is the emblem for the Maasai Mara’s magic; thriving despite the challenges and contributing to a brighter future. He will be missed, but what a life well lived. We will be remembering Fred in the coming days. Stay tuned for more opportunities to join us in celebrating the life of this gentle giant.

Anyone interested in trees for planting, can consult this tool by @ICRAF on what to plant, for what purpose and how to manage them: apps.worldagroforestry.org/s…
I was to plant them until I realized they get carry loads of green scales which affect almost all fruit trees. Quite an easy decision to make between fruits and a flowering tree!

A nation is built twice: first in the habits of its people, then in the institutions those habits sustain.

We are praying for all those workers trapped in the collapsed building in Eastleigh. The Red Cross is saying they are in communication with them. We hope there will be silver lining to this otherwise sad story.

Underrated life advice: Keep a list of the people who believed in you early. The teacher who pushed you. The boss who took a chance. The friend who told you to go for it. Every now and then, reach out. Update them. And tell them just how much you appreciate what they did for you.

Building an interesting life is worth the effort. Develop your skills. Take your career seriously. Learn to manage money. Travel when you can. Maintain friendships. Try things that scare you. An interesting life rarely arrives on its own. Give yourself more possibilities.

Robert Greene was right when he said: “Always stick to what makes you weird, odd, strange, different. That’s your source of power.”

Kenya flexing Safari like it’s a global achievement 😭. Take Safari away and what exactly has Kenya put on the world stage? Nigeria has exported music, film, culture, business and influence worldwide. 🇳🇬

Affordable Protein should be a key topic at the Agriculture Summit. We are letting Kenyan children down and setting them up for life long being behind on many markets including brain development and height. Many especially urban poor are surviving on carbs like chips mwitu.
