I lost my livelihood. I spent ten months on bail. The case ended with no further action but the impact on my family continues. In January 2025, Counter Terrorism Prevent officers visited my home in Swansea following reports about my views and online activity. I believe those reports misrepresented what I had actually said. In this video, you can hear the conversation for yourself. I explain my views on Islamic schools and mosques, respond to the officers’ challenges and discuss an alternative. I was told“not to cross the line”. Yet when I asked where that line was, I did not receive a clear answer. My attendance at a Tommy Robinson rally was also raised. How are people supposed to understand a warning when the people giving it cannot clearly explain it? I was subsequently arrested and spent around ten months on bail before the case ended with "no further action". Separately, I had already lost my job at Swansea Council. I believe speaking out and the accusations made against me cost me my livelihood. I thought living in Britain meant I could express my opinions, challenge religious ideas and criticise wrongdoing through democratic debate. Instead, my experience in Swansea has left me questioning whose voices are protected and whose are punished. As a Muslim myself, I should be able to challenge wrongdoing by other Muslims without facing personal attacks or attempts to silence me. Some of the people who speak about peace and tolerance have responded to my criticism with hostility. Sharing a religion does not put anyone beyond criticism or accountability. My concerns about religious extremism come from my own experiences. I grew up in Saudi Arabia, and I have personally encountered more Muslims expressing extremist views here in the UK than I did there. Many Muslims I knew in Saudi Arabia were more liberal in their attitudes than some I have encountered in Britain. That is my experience, rather than a judgment about every Muslim in either country. I believe people underestimate the danger of allowing Islamic religious rules to override democratic laws or dictate how others must live. Britain must be governed through its democratic institutions, with equal rights and the same law applying to everyone. Freedom of religion must include freedom to question religion, disagree with it or leave it. My criticism is directed at the bengali/paksitani mirpuri Muslims I believe misrepresented me and the authorities’ handling of the situation. I want answers about their actions and decisions. Ten months on bail meant uncertainty, stress and worry for my family. No further action did not restore my livelihood or erase that experience. That is why I am sharing this footage.
