Built for 49ers fans who want the important stuff without digging through the entire timeline. News, rumors, injuries, roster moves, context and takes.
Kyle Shanahan is now 12-7 against Sean McVay.
Last night McVay had the reigning MVP, the Super Bowl favorite roster and Myles Garrett.
Final score:
49ers 27
Rams 7
Kyle might need to start claiming Sean as a dependent.
Deebo Samuel leaves San Francisco for one year.
Comes back.
First game back:
6 catches
48 receiving yards
12 rushing yards
1 TD
And of course the touchdown comes against the Rams to finish a 99-yard drive.
Some relationships are complicated.
Deebo bullying the Rams is not one of them.
The most encouraging stat from last night might be this:
Rams third downs: 2/9
The 49ers defense spent the entire offseason hearing about what it lost, who was getting old and whether Bosa/Warner would ever be the same.
Week 1 answer: relax.
Brock Purdy vs. the reigning MVP:
Purdy:
25/34
205 yards
3 TD
105.6 passer rating
Stafford:
15/25
155 yards
0 TD
1 INT
61.3 rating
Going to be another long season for people waiting for the “Purdy regression.”

The 49ers didn’t trim the roster. They performed a full offseason software update and left 33 players on the uninstall screen. 49erswebzone.com/news/202818…
Houston is treating its offensive line like a garage sale. San Francisco got Jarrett Patterson, while Dallas also went shopping. Buy one, trade one? 49erswebzone.com/news/202816…
Could center/guard versatility make Patterson a key 49ers depth piece? @KP_Show notes he has 17 career starts at center and 4 at left guard for Houston. xitter.cf/KP_Show/status/2094167…
Patterson started the first 8 games as a rookie in 2023 for the Texans at center under Bobby Slowik before suffering a fractured fibula that ended his season. He started another 9 at center in '24. He started 4 games at left guard last season for the Texans. 49ers opting for/valuing experience along the IOL.
The Texans accepted a 2027 seventh for Jarrett Patterson. Somewhere, a draft pick that cannot legally drive yet just got traded for a center. xitter.cf/MaioccoNBCS/status/209…
Rams just got a whole lot scarier
🚨 🚨 🚨
He’s back: Rams star Aaron Donald is coming out of retirement and returning to the Rams on a one-year, $20M deal that with incentives could be worth up to $30M, per @rapsheet and me.
After two seasons away, Donald now will join forces with Myles Garrett, giving the Rams two of the top defensive linemen in NFL history.

Trade! The Texans are sending OL Jarrett Patterson to the 49ers, sources tell @ringer @netflixsports.
With Quinton Bell released, the 49ers have one fewer linebacker competing for a roster spot. Does this increase the odds of keeping extra special-teams depth at the position? xitter.cf/AdamSchefter/status/20…
Shanahan: says 6 words
PFT: unfortunately George Kittle has died
After the preseason finale, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan made a vague remark in passing about TE George Kittle, possibility indicating he's had a setback in his ongoing recovery from a torn Achilles tendon. nbcsports.com/nfl/profootbal…
