McClatchy laid off 13 at the Statesman - that is a majority of the 21 editorial employees listed. The paper also quietly cut its business/govt. editor earlier this year. The cuts amount to a majority of the paper's staff. A team of one editor and seven reporters remains.
This is a horrific blow to Idaho high school sports coverage. Which considering Idaho has no major pro sports, is the vast majority of sports coverage in the state.
