The world of digital animals always brings me joy ... and I thought I'd share some rather interesting-looking specimens I found today as part of my latest science project...
Another neat clip extracted from my excellent conversation with @DannyGoler.
This one explains the essence of ITP.
What you see around you isn't real.

This used to be what reading LLM-made proofs felt like.
I haven't looked through the latest release, but based on recent experiences, I really don't think it is this.
It's happening.
We’re releasing a broad range of new mathematical results produced by an internal frontier model.
We’ve been consulting with the independent Advisory Group on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence at the Institute for Advanced Study, and we have drawn on their advice and public recommendations to inform how we release these results.

I obviously don't know about the ontology of the situation. But I can't model what experience would be like if I didn't have the intuition that other animals, let alone infants, represent systems that render qualia.
This was way trickier to pick than I expected.

I think it depends on what "containing itself" means. In many ways the answer is obviously no.
However, there should be a unique smallest number n s.t. after n digits pi repeats from the beginning up to the nth digit, right?
Even if every arbitrary string of length m occurs somewhere in pi, it seems believable that there is no n s.t. after exactly n digits of pi all the preceeding digits repeat in the same order as before.
I'll leave the argument as an exercise for the reader.
Is it literally not possible to find non-doomers with things to say? Or is this just from so deep in my bubble that the "other side" are basically caricatures? Or does it look the other way to people who don't worry about the risks?
What's going on here?

I'm rereading the Illuminatus! trilogy.
To my surprise, I find myself nostalgic for a time with a legible enough moral, technological, and political situation to take an absurd view on.
Today at face value is, in many ways, more confusing than that surreal image of the -70s.

We're sitting on some potentially very viral material about consciousness from QRI's latest research. It's been a massive group effort, and we're still putting it together!
If you're a journalist interested in jhānas, 5-MeO-DMT, and new ways to visualize subjective experience, let's talk. Happy to share a private preview and explain why we think this could resonate with a much wider audience. It would be an auspicious time for us from a fundraising perspective. And the readers will be delighted, scientists will be intrigued, and curious kids shall be inspired.
So it's a win-win-win :-)
Working with Hermes to setup AI agents powered by Astra I have this constant feeling that at most 10% of the work I am doing is related to my research and 90% is purely Immanentizing the Eschaton.
Something about the current moment in AI development gives similar vibes to the leadup to the Battle of Darkness in the Dark Forest.
Like, there's some really disturbing knowledge of the "can't unsee it" kind slowly permeating the social graph, but not quite openly known yet.
