The vaccine manufacturing/distribution part of this story is going to be a colossal disaster in ways you would not have imagined.
The best time to start making a BA.2 vaccine was when BA.2 was declared a variant of concern on the 26th of November 2021.
The 2nd best time was literally any time in 2022.
The 3rd best time is when governments asked for BA.5 shots.
The 4th best time is still now, for BA.2.75.

we might have actually prevented the soon-to-be endemicity of monkeypox almost everywhere had we shipped to Nigeria those vaccines we let expire. incompetence and negligence fed by racism. similar to the "expert" reaction to the Israeli booster campaign - wrong and racist
This was about Delta.
Not only did they not make a vaccine for Delta, but they told folks it their two shots (3-4 weeks apart) taken months ago of a 2019-strain made Delta into a cold.
That it was anxiety.
"The science has changed" since then, but uptake is killed.
No regret.

Never forget the admins who told HCWs they couldn’t wear masks to protect themselves early in the pandemic. They were more worried about patient satisfaction (ie profits) than patient or staff safety.

This makes zero sense. If NOT doing something has KNOWN and SIGNFICANT harms, the precautionary principle dictates implementing measures as long as a) there is good reason to expect a benefit and b) they involve significantly lower expected harms than inaction.
