‘It is almost as though they are punishing people for daring to fall in love with a foreigner…It’s xenophobic and unjust, reserving such a love only for the wealthy and well-connected.’

“This was once a fine portrait, but with the restorations removed it is not worth exhibiting”
I’ve got my Astro Groovers badge - thanks to the post lunch Energiser at the @WM_MuseumDev Conference. A room full of museum professionals dancing while full of food. I’ll wear it with pride.

Visited a colleague at Boscobel House earlier - walked around the house and Gardens, watched in the mirror as Charles II cut his hair off, and looked down into the (small) priest hole he slept in.
On my way to this now! The team have worked incredibly hard on this, and I know it’s going to be a great evening.
There's a fashion show with a difference this weekend @IronbridgeGMT 💃
The "Fashion Through The Ages" event is being hosted at Enginuity tonight and tomorrow.
Models dressed as coal merchants, female footballers and even Queen Victoria will strut the catwalk in about 40 replica outfits 🤩

After a summer of wildfire and floods, and records broken here in the UK, yesterday's announcement is barely fathomable. Future generations will ask why, after these stark signs, the government would put this country’s global leadership on climate change into reverse.
Fairness should absolutely be central to any change, but it is not fair that our children will have their future blighted by the poor decisions made today. It isn't fair that businesses that have invested heavily in pioneering green technologies and the jobs of tomorrow will have to put their plans on ice, nor that changes in policy endanger our much-loved cultural heritage and natural environment, undermining everything from food security to our health and wellbeing. And it isn't fair that the poorest in our society will lose out most in the future.
Progress towards Net Zero must be sustained, not kicked down the road for political expediency.
We urge the Prime Minister and his Government to rethink.
The story of the Quakers is so important to the history of @IronbridgeGMT & to the story of the wider Industrial Revolution. For this reason we invited Prof Ben Pink Dandelion from Birmingham Uni to explain their approach to life, business and religion.

Failing to address the antisemitic and Holocaust denial comments that appear under our posts commemorating the victims of Auschwitz would be a disservice to their memory.
We've chosen to block users who promote denial and hatred. This decision stems from our deep dedication to our mission. We need a secure space to do this.
Engaging in discussions with people and accounts that seek to abuse the memory of victims of Auschwitz is against the values we believe in. These individuals do not seek discourse; they aim to inflict pain. In this context, blocking is a necessary step to ensure that these harmful voices don't persist in their repetitive attacks on memory.
In today's digital age, social media platforms shoulder significant moral responsibility. They should actively counter hate speech and halt its normalization.
A platform that disregards the need to defend the memory of the victims demonstrates a disregard for creating a respectful and empathetic online environment.
Blocking users isn't a mere action; it's a practical measure. Often, reporting accounts that spread hostility remains an unanswered call. Blocking provides a way to protect the memory of people who suffered and were murdered in Auschwitz.
Over the summer we’ve been running a ‘Design a Bear’ competition in Enginuity @IronbridgeGMT offering our visitors a chance to win a Merrythought Teddybear - it’s been very, very popular…
Just ordered my copy
We're delighted to reveal the stunning cover for UNCIVILISED by @littlegaudy - the enthralling book that will overturn your assumptions about civilisation and society.

Fantastic work from Catherine, one of the @KeeleUniversity interns working with us over the summer.
Fascinating interview with a volunteer from millmeecepumpingstation.co.u… today - exploring the issues surrounding the operation of stationary steam engines on behalf of @Archaeology_tea from Historic England and @IronbridgeGMT @Nickuae A real hidden gem.

Spent the morning meeting with staff at the Observatory at Keele University, talking about future activities and partnership work. A great and very exciting way to start the week!
And it’s the anniversary of the launch of the SS Great Western…a big date for the @SSGreatBritain and Brunel enthusiasts.
Two anniversaries for IK Brunel's steamship SS Great Britain today. She was launched #OnThisDay 1843 in Bristol, see extract from Mark Brunel's diary below. 127 years later she returned to Bristol #OnThisDay 1970. Why not pay her a visit this summer? #staycation
The only photo I took at yesterdays #FestivalOfArchaeology event @IronbridgeGMT with @AIndustrialArch - sherds, beautiful sherds.
Great to see Jackfield Tile Museum covered in this months Museums Journal from @MuseumsAssoc. It’s one of the ten museums that @IronbridgeGMT run, and is regularly described by visitors as ‘a hidden gem’. We’re working hard to make it less hidden…
