Big up to @MattWilliamsNGP for challenging the troubling MYTHS doing the rounds on asylum seekers being prioritised for council housing. Misinformation like this is making it harder to build consent for housebuilding, and is dividing communities. Greens will always speak up!

It was a joy to join @KarbonHomes for this launch last week! I have so much to say on the community groups, community interest companies, artists and bakeries bringing new life to the Byker Wall estate. This is the start of an exciting new chapter for Byker. More to come!

People aren’t failing to be resilient. They’re being asked to tolerate things nobody should have to tolerate. This #WorldMentalHealthDay, I’ve made a video on how austerity, poverty and failing services are damaging mental health - and why we need change. 🎥 Part 1 of 2

Therapy matters. But it cannot fix poverty, unsafe housing or inequality. In Part 2, I explain why my work in mental health led me to join the @NCLGreenParty. Mental health is a social justice issue. Let’s get angry enough to change the things making people ill.

A celebration of North East indie bands coming up at 9pm on @BBC6Music 🙌 Or as Nathan Shepherd put it: Newcastle indie bands. I guess all @NewcastleCC’s talk of being the UK’s most successful regional capital has rubbed off on the Beeb. bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00322t…

Like many @TheGreenParty councillors and members, I’ve been out tonight speaking with residents, reporting problems and raising concerns with the council. Being on the ground. Getting stuff done. Whatever else happens in politics, I think we all agree we need more of that.

Doorknocking in what was thought to be solid Labour territory around King’s Cross station, and it’s clear @ZackPolanski’s message is cutting through. Green campaigners have been working hard and residents are asking: what’s the point of another Labour MP? Exactly! Vote Green.

Spoiler alert - we can! Brilliant report from @JamieDriscollNE 👇
Every day another news story says Britain is under pressure from global instability. Why can’t we just build homes, and clean energy, with secure jobs? Turns out the answer is even better than I thought. See what you think. HostageNation.com

A new report from my @TheGreenParty colleague @JamieDriscollNE is out today. How comparing our country’s finances to a household budget has created a myth that keeps us hostage to an economy that makes most of us poorer. Here’s Jamie’s plan to get us out of this mess 👇

Finally some good news on Shields Road Post Office! 📮 Cllrs Hedley Sugar-Wells, Jamie Anderson and I have been pushing for answers, so we’re glad the Post Office has now confirmed the new branch at 242 Shields Road will open on Monday 12 October.

I’m sad to say though, the @PostOffice’s handling of the closure could have been much better. It was a short notice closure due to events beyond their control but poor communication didn’t help. Let’s hope we get clearer answers going forward. Really welcome news though.

One thing united everyone in the assisted dying debate – the need to address the appalling underfunding of palliative and social care which inflicts so much avoidable suffering on people with terminal illnesses. I’ve written this open letter to @andyburnham because every single day at work, I see how much more dignity, comfort, meaning and joy we could enable patients to experience at the end of their life, if only palliative and oscial care weren’t so appallingly underfunded. I know it is unlikely you will ever see or read this letter, Mr Burnham. But I had to write it anyway. Because a good death – with as little suffering and loss of dignity as possible – should surely be a basic human right for us all? The underfunding of palliative care is denying too many people that right. For far too long, dying people have simply not been a government priority. You have the power to change that. As a specialist in palliative medicine, I can only hope and beg you to do so.

“What does being radical mean?” I’m a late addition to tomorrow’s panel at @LiveTheatre, and I’d love to hear your answer. My view? The real radicals are those who embrace community and continually look to give power away. Let’s celebrate those who do 👇 live.org.uk/whats-on/radical…

I was deeply concerned by news this week about a local Reform councillor. After last week’s council meeting, serious questions need answering. Newcastle Reform must unequivocally reject the Great Replacement conspiracy theory. Newcastle deserve better than racism and division.
