The only way out of the national housing crisis is to build more homes. That’s exactly what we are doing in South Australia - in record numbers.
Can rent control fix the housing crisis? No. In fact, it could make things a whole lot worse.

EXCLUSIVE: Dozens of South Australian homebuyers are in limbo after learning their contracts at a Gawler East estate will be torn up. The developer blames changes to a proposed new road project but the housing minister bluntly describes the excuse as ‘bullshit’. @mjstanley7

The building approvals numbers are a testament to the resilience of the South Australian economy and the incredible momentum that our state is experiencing.
Where other Australian states have regressed, South Australia remains an exceptional outlier, recording housing numbers that haven’t been seen in a generation.
Every one of these approvals represents a South Australian family closer to a home of their own.
Our focus now turns to turning these approvals into keys in the door for these families.

We’ve formalised our long-term gas supply agreement with Santos, securing 20 petajoules of gas every year for a decade from 2030.
This gas will stay in South Australia to help power the transformation of the Whyalla steelworks, supporting lower-emissions steelmaking, local jobs and our state’s industrial future.

When South Australia proposed a social media ban for under-16s, some said it couldn’t be done.
Now countries around the world are following.
This morning I joined Jake Tapper on CNN to discuss what our social media ban for under-16s means for our kids.

Great to be out at Smithfield train station this morning chatting with commuters about the State Budget and its importance to the local area.
Australia’s first neighbourhood exclusively for first homebuyers, right here in Adelaide’s northern suburbs, will be fast tracked to accelerate construction of 400 homes.
We’re pulling every lever to help more South Australians achieve the dream of home ownership.

The first instalment of Mali’s Meat Tray ✅
What better way to hear from South Australians than a good old-fashion meat tray at the pub, all for a great cause in @VinniesSA.
Thanks to the Woodcroft Hotel for having me and to all the local legends that stopped for a chat and a laugh.

Tuesday night’s Budget was a big pro-supply Budget.
We’re investing another $2 billion in housing enabling infrastructure - the roads, water and sewerage that actually unlock new homes.
That brings our total investment in housing enabling infrastructure to $6.3 billion since coming to government, with billions more available.
That’s more than the Coalition promised at the last election - and more than 50 times what they actually invested over a decade in office. They promised $1 billion. In the end, they spent just $123.5 million.
And our infrastructure investment was just one supply measure in the Budget - we also took further action to speed up housing approvals and streamline construction standards nationwide. This could unlock tens of thousands of more homes and builds on our ambitious $47 billion Homes for Australia plan.
We’re not just making promises - we’re delivering. New housing commencements are up 26% on this time last year.
Real progress is being made. But we know there’s more work to do.
