My boys at team Driftless Robotics giving the C-UAS team a run for their money😤💯😮‍💨
DARPA just used C-UAS Raptor FPV drones to take down a flyaway drone system Incredible

Big props (da-dum-tsss) for this team for their effort. This configuration is the theoretical winner IMO, so they were on the right track!
It's over; they went out with a crazy crash

Anyone else following the DARPA Lift Challenge? $6.5M in prize money to build a drone that can: - Stay under 55 lbs - Take off with a 110 lb minimum payload (4x its weight) - Fly 4 nautical miles loaded (12 laps) - Drop the payload - Fly 1 more nautical mile empty (3 laps) - Finish inside a 30-min window Top 3 teams split the full prize as long as they clear the 4:1 ratio. Most heavy-lift drones can barely lift their own weight. DARPA wants 4x. That's never been done.

I'm really enjoying how many contraptions there are in the DARPA lift challenge. They're putting a gas bicopter up against an electric thing with 32 props, excellent.

Location to fly is gonna be the biggest obstacle in this speed challenge by far! Who’s got a good site for testing large and fast RC aircraft?
I saw high-speed RC aeroplanes are getting attention. Here are some things I built in my garage! The largest crams a 300N turbojet into a 1m, 8kg aircraft. I’m ready for a 550-600 mph Guinness World Record attempt, but I’m in the UK and in need of a larger flying range to do this safely. @bscholl @DJSnM @elonmusk let’s make this an international competition! #aerospace #drones #rc

Can’t believe they had to have someone individually program each and every one! Coulda just used the same firmware on all of ‘em🤦‍♂️
Sound on. Footage from US defense technology firm Swarm Defense shows their hardware in action in the form of hundreds of individually programmed drones flying in coordinated operation.

This is confusing folks bc of the misconception that flapping wings create lift to overcome gravity. Flapping wings create forward thrust, not lift. Thrust causes forward motion, which then enables lift with respect to the aircraft’s (bird’s) body as they pull aoa on the wings.
i need to know what would happen if a parrot were zero G on the ISS or something like what would happen when it flaps its wings??? im sobbing

Long story short, I think a bird in zero G could figure out how to get around with some practice!
