My #UNGA81 highlight was demonstration of a a practical path to Africa’s health sovereignty through local manufacturing. Credit to @WilliamsRuto, @Dr_JeanKaseya & @AfricaCDC for convening “Roadmap to Self-Reliance” and advancing this agenda. Commitment can turn ambition into capability. Recognition to @MSDInvents and African manufacturers - Universal Corporation Ltd (Kenya), @qcil_uganda2 (Uganda) & @aspenpharma (South Africa). Alimatravir, a once-monthly HIV prevention pill, remains in Phase 3 and access depends on successful trials and approval. Thanks to @priya__agrawal, @gatesfoundation & @CIFFchild, and researchers and communities advancing this work. @AU_AMA_ & @AfCFTA have vital roles in the regulatory and trade conditions that can make African manufacturing sustainable. We need predictable procurement, long-term finance, skills and strong delivery systems. The test of sovereignty is quality-assured medicines people can reliably access and afford because AVAILABILITY IS NOT ACCESS! Look forward to advancing these conversations at @AHAIC_Amref 2027 in Kigali, 28th February to 3rd March 2027 @Amref_Worldwide @HonAdenDuale @CEPIvaccines @@WHOAFRO

Health starts long before anyone enters a clinic. When people cannot safely walk, cycle, or use public transport, cities limit everyday opportunities for health. Addis Ababa, like Kigali, reminds us: build livable cities, build healthier futures. Could you walk or cycle to work safely today? @MekdesDaba @WHOAFRO @AfricaCDC

Happy community health workers = healthy communities 😍
