I got chatting to a friend of a friend at the pub last weekend.
He’d just turned 30. Good job, no debt (excluding student loan), saves every month and the kind of person you’d expect to have it figured out.
He told me what he thought his 30s would look like when he was 22. The house, maybe a kid and a bit of money behind him.
Then he told me what it actually looks like... Renting a room in Clapham and saving for a deposit that gets further away every year he saves for it.
He hasn’t done anything wrong, that’s what he was told to do!
I wrote about this a couple months ago, so could give him the spiel🤣
But it's just wild when you think about it... in 1997 the average home cost 3.5 times the average salary. Today it’s 7.6!
My one bit of advice to him was to learn the rules of the game you’re actually playing. Money loses value over time. Once that clicks, everything else gets a lot more obvious.

Introducing Bitwater: the water heater element that mines Bitcoin.
It screws into the electric tank you already have.
Physically decentralized mining that runs no matter what 🧵
Heat water. Mine Bitcoin. Same tank.

🇬🇧 🌬️ The LARGEST DAY OF WASTED WIND on record. Britain paid £41.3m on 14 Oct, to switch off turbines (£5.7m) then buy the power back from gas (£35.7m). 150,656 MWh of clean generation discarded.
Texas lets Bitcoin miners soak up surplus wind. Here it lands straight on household bills. 💸

The police actually behaved rather well but were a little delayed in reaching the scene.
They dispersed as many violent individuals as they could, caught and are now pursuing the lad who spat on me.
They drove me in a police car to a safe location and have since been in touch to ask for a full statement regarding the assault and criminal damage.
Nevertheless, this kind of lawlessness and attacks on open debate and free speech should never happen.
We must restore a high trust society.
🇳🇴 Meet Bobafet from Norway
Bobafet:
• Mines bitcoin sovereignly in the Norwegian mountains.
• Dries his shoes with a miner running Braiins OS.
• Dries firewood from his own forest with the same heat.
• Helped build Braiins Manager and uses it to run his other farms remotely.
Bobafet is cool. Be like Bobafet.
This is bonkers but I've seen it myself in some of the businesses I work with.
In the past week I have come across several UK businesses that are trying to shrink.
As a direct result of taxes, they are not just avoiding growth, they are actively looking for ways to reduce headcount and other overheads to remain profitable.
The crazy part is they actually have access to customers that want to buy but it’s not sufficiently profitable to take them on relative to the added risk.
The second ongoing trend I’m seeing is businesses moving more of their team to South Africa and the Philippines. Good jobs that could be in the UK.
Im also seeing businesses that want to sell to US acquirers. The business is hard to make profitable so it would be better to cash out and look for alternatives.
The consequences of being anti business, anti success and anti wealth are really starting to show.

The UK generates less electricity per person today than it did in 1968 - @OurWorldInData
Think about that: AI, data centres, EVs, heat pumps & advanced manufacturing etc.
You cannot build an electricity hungry future without abundant electricity. The UK is a shambles!

Andy Burnham says doesn’t want to be constrained by the Bond Market.
There’s a secret way he can do this - it’s called fiscal responsibility.
It’s a big word that means spending less on unproductive nonsense that makes the economy worse.
The economy grows based on a formula…
Capital Allocation x Productive Labour x Innovation = growth.
The problem is that government doesn’t do any of those three things well. They tried capital allocation and we ended up with a railway that still doesn’t run. They tried productive labour and we ended up with a record number of government employees and record low productivity. They tried innovation and we have the most expensive power costs in the world.
Time to stop borrowing from the bond market, cut costs in government and let the real economy cook.

Three contractors are bidding to fix a broken fence at the Downing Street.
One is from London, another is from Birmingham and the third is from Manchester.
All three go with a Downing Street official to examine the fence.
The London contractor takes out a tape measure and does some measuring, then works some figures with a pencil.
"Well," he says, "I figure the job will run about £900. £400 for materials, £400 for my crew, and £100 profit for me."
The Birmingham contractor also does some measuring and figuring, then says,
"I can do this job for £700. £300 for materials, £300 for my crew, and £100 profit for me."
The Manchester contractor doesn't measure or figure, but leans over to the Downing Street official and whispers, "£2,700."
The official, incredulous, says, "You didn't even measure like the other guys! How did you come up with such a high figure?"
The Manchester contractor whispers back, "£1000 for me, £1000 for you, and we hire the guy from Birmingham to fix the fence."
"Done!" replies the government official. And that, my friends, is how our government works.
It may be funny but, sadly, it's also very accurate.

Don't look at the charts in this thread if you don't want Britain's inability to build anything to depress you.
My favorite part is that "the paperwork for Birmingham’s one-mile Eastside Tram Extension is longer than the extension itself."
A bonfire of the law and regulation that led to this idiocy might be the single best thing a government could do for our productivity and our economy. It might even mean that we can build power generation and reservoirs again!
Every time I think I've got a handle on how bad we are at building infrastructure, @Ben_A_Hopkinson finds new ways to shock me. Have pulled out some of the most jaw-dropping stats/charts in the thread below (1/?) xitter.cf/Ben_A_Hopkinson/status…

🇬🇧🌬️ September 2026: Worst month I’ve recorded to date.
The UK wasted £403.05 million switching wind turbines OFF and paying gas plants to switch ON because the grid can’t take the power.
Same problem every time. The wind blows, the cables can’t move it, so we pay twice, once to switch the wind off, once to burn gas instead.
Bitcoin miners could soak up that surplus, turn wasted MWh into money, and help secure the grid like they already do in Texas. #BitcoinMining

The internet has thousands of creators who do a better job of entertaining than the BBC or any subsidised arts body.
Citizen journalists get closer to the truth than the BBC or Channel 4.
Danny Tommo does a better job of defending our borders than the Home Office, and is arrested for his trouble
You get better data from independent research than rom the ONS.
Independent analysts make better forecasts than the OBR.
Bitcoin and gold are both better money than whatever the Bank of England is currently debasing.
You get better knowledge online than you do at school or university.
AI diagnoses most things faster and more accurately than a GP.
You get more truth about Covid origins and vaccines online than you do from the medical establishment.
Self-driving cars are better than TfL.
Lime bikes are better than Boris bikes.
A private pension lets you own and manage your own retirement assets rather than state-mandated bond buying.
You can buy a prefab house online for less than £100,000. The problem is where to put it. Which wouldn't be a problem were it not for planning laws.
What gets subsidised should be decided by the person paying for it
And on and on.
Everywhere you look, the private sector does a better job, to a higher standard and for a lower price.
So what, exactly, is the point of the state?

The math is simple now.
Reform can't win a general election, any idea of turning this around is cope - too many failures, too much insulting of the electorate, too much chaos. They were warned and didn't listen.
Conservatives are back in contention, but have lost too many on trust. Won't be able to win on their own.
Restore is in the race on % of vote and growing. Could be bigger than Reform in three years, a snap election would be different maths.
If the country wants to stop the lunatic left and continual decline of the country, a coalition is likely the only answer.
But a coalition has the problem of egos. Probably has hard as Fury and AJ arguing over who walks out second.
Then how does the right agree on sensible policies and things the country has the stomach for? How does it stop wasting its time on silly ideas like welfare cards, which are flawed and unserious.
The focus should be simple:
- Border control
- Productivity gains (literally everyone wins with this)
- Deregulation
- Slashing the welfare bill
- Build more prisons + return to punishing crime
- End of the two tier system
The above is all obvious to anyone with half a brain.
