I suspect the word “agent” will face the same fate as “computer”. 50 yrs ago, computer meant, “a person who does calculations”.
Pretty soon (already for some), “Sales Agent”, “Travel Agent”, or “Agent” (meaning representative) will no longer refer to a human by default.
New Urban Development Metric: what proportion of scaffolding in your city is made of wood vs. steel?
There’s an element of our culture (borrowed from the US, I think) that treats effortless success as proof of genius. Happy to see that waning.
A lot of the time, difficulty and friction are mechanisms for building something real.
Was a real honour to meet with the Ministers to discuss the unique opportunities Africa has for applying AI to problems in SME finance and support. Many exciting things to come!

Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) contribute 40% to the GDP and employ more than 60% of the workforce. They’re the real MVPs. Yet somehow, the R350 billion funding gap still exists. The majority of applicants are micro businesses (earning under R1 million a year), but they’re the least likely to get funded. Think about that. The people creating most of the jobs are the ones least trusted with money. It’s the financial equivalent of putting your dog in charge of guarding your biltong.
Big things coming for all African founders!
