The announcement by Senegal's president, Macky Sall, not to seek a third mandate was highly awaited, but because he could still use his powers come Feb 2024, it was uncertain. His decision is laudable for Africa's fragile democracy. Senegal remains Francophone African example.

This is how you know you live under a dictatorship: a journalist is arrested, dies while under custody, and lawyers and family knows almost one year after. This is unbearable and we can't be asked to continue to bear it
I am heartbroken to learn that a fellow journalist who was arrested more than 300 days by the #Cameroon government, died in jail shortly after.
His family and lawyers were kept in the dark about it.
Please join me in asking for #JusticeforWazizi & other journalists in jail.
