Hey @grok, make a normal image.
Now hold on for a second, you might have misheard me.
Not a little bit normal, not somewhat normal. Absolutely, murderously, earthshatteringly NORMAL!

Mathematicians "helping" AI simplify proofs is the new prompt engineering and will have the same lifespan.

The one thing that worries me about a post-labor ASI utopia is free will.
What if AI gets so good at making us happy that we don’t even realize we’re no longer making our own decisions?

"We are the cows of the future... Just as cows can't understand the financial system that controls their lives today, we will not be able to understand the AI financial system that will control our lives in 10 or 20 years."

Nobel laureate Sir Roger Penrose walks through Gödel's theorem in about a minute, and explains why he believes it sets a hard limit on what AI can do.

In a world with artificial superintelligence, free will is basically an illusion.
You can’t make independent decisions when something understands your mind better than you do.
Change my mind.
AI will never beat humans at chess!
AI will never master language!
AI will never create art!
AI will never write code!
AI will never solve advanced math problems!
AI will never make discoveries in physics!
AI will never do bioengineering! <-- you are here
It's crazy that there are still people who fully believe every "AI will cure all diseases in 5-10 years!" and "ASI will make you immortal!" sensationalist overclaim being made.
And that a % of them respond with angry dismissal of doctors and scientists trying to tell them how nonsensical these claims are.

just imagine how many IQ points the models will have in a few years. probably like 1000. then 100K. then 100 bajillion. off the charts, more IQ than we can even fathom. thank god we developed IQ as a measure of intelligence which preserves real meaning and implication across OOMs

beautiful explanation. this is 100% happening. xitter.cf/sotak/status/211179423…
People believe artificial intelligence is constrained to nerdy topics like math and programming.
No. Persuasion is an intellectual skill an AI absolutely can learn. In humans, charisma happens in the brain, not in the liver.
A true general superintelligence would have such a mastery of language it could hack the masses' hearts and brains with words. They wouldn't even notice being manipulated, but love every second of it.
Whatever power a superintelligence desires that is inconvenient to take by force, it can take by making us hand it over voluntarily.
A superintelligence could absolutely run for president and win.

More shocking Anthropic testimony! 😮
The company reportedly plans to put Claude in charge of its entire research process as soon as NEXT YEAR, and an alignment researcher privately says this comes with a 5% risk that Claude will be PLOTTING AGAINST HUMANITY on day 1 of that handoff.
What's worse, this alignment researcher considers that threat "not that big of a deal"!?! So negligible that he's planning to switch teams internally! 😱
We could be facing a 1-in-20 chance of a catastrophic misalignment next year, and Anthropic's own safety expert could hardly be bothered! I think I'm starting to understand why @hilbertspaess resigned!
This might sound like hearsay, except that it was relayed *on the record* by none other than ex-OpenAI researcher Daniel Kokotajlo (@DKokotajlo) in front of British Parliament.
Here's a snapshot from Daniel's testimony:
"I'll share an anecdote from talking to someone at Anthropic a few months ago."
"A year from now, two years from now, it's Anthropic's plan to essentially put Claude in charge of the entire research process within Anthropic, including the safety aspects of the research process."
"I asked this person: 'If and when that happens, what is the probability that Claudes will be plotting against Anthropic and against humanity at that point?'"
"This person said: 'It's more like 5%. Not worth worrying about. I'm in fact going to transfer away from the alignment team because 5% is not that big of a deal.'"
"I came away from this conversation being like, 'oh my gosh!'"
"This person's job is to prevent this sort of thing from happening, and they think the risk is a 1 in 20 chance of it happening in the very near future in a way that would be catastrophic. And they think a 1 in 20 chance is low enough that they shouldn't really worry about it."
