I'm joining my fellow unionized @USATODAYCo journos today in efforts to stop any attempts to replace employees with AI. @therecordguild
It's weird, but more and more I find myself in league with the bartender who throws C3PO and R2D2 out of his establishment. @nyguild

Reporters deserve to and must be the ones telling human stories — not AI, not LLMs, not machines! NO SLOP IN OUR SHOP!
Don’t substitute us! Value us.

Replying to @USATODAYCo
@USATODAYCo readers deserve news from human journalists. That's why our members and unionized @USATODAYCo workers across the country stood together today, taking a coordinated break to protest the company's use of AI. #newsnotslop.
Editors at @USATODAYCo told a @northjersey staffer to use AI to draft news briefs from press releases. The staffer did each brief twice: once w/ AI and once on their own. Proofing and checking all the inaccuracies AI spat out took twice the time as drafting the briefs themselves.

Today, I am joining colleagues across the @USATodayCo network, formerly Gannett, in a Lunch Out against A.I. slop. We are calling on @USATodayCo to stop forcing generative artificial intelligence on newsrooms and to invest in the people who power our journalism.

AI is inaccurate and sloppy. It cannot do the work of journalists and photographers. However it can plagiarize, insert errors and hallucinate falsehoods. We need human-driven news reporting, not AI garbage from our newsrooms. @appmcjguild @GannettUnion @nyguild @newsguild

Thank you NorthJersey.com's @myersgene and @newsfallon for their “Hurdles to Health Care” series that covered a range of important topics, including the complex health needs of people with autism and other developmental disorders.
The series mentioned @AutismNJ's creation of a statewide consortium to define autism-friendly care. Our goal is to support substantial and sustainable changes in healthcare systems throughout the state. For more information about our consortium, visit autismnj.org/healthcare-cons….

Part 3 of our series Hurdles to Health Care just dropped:
NJ’s Medicaid managed-care system may be among the most pervasive obstacles to patients with disabilities resulting often in denials and delays — and opaque reasoning. @myersgene

Part 2 of Hurdles to Health Care w/ @myersgene:
In a state with one of the best doctor-to-patient ratios, New Jersey has sat at the bottom in % of docs who accept Medicaid.
This puts folks with disabilities at a major disadvantage when seeking care.

My reporting partner @myersgene joined @BriVannozziNJ of @NJSpotlightNews last night to discuss our series Hurdles to Health Care.
