🚨 SCAM ALERT: JURY DUTY SCAM CIRCULATING AGAIN! 🚨 The New Kent County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents that the jury duty scam is once again circulating in our area. We want to remind everyone how these scams work and what you can do to avoid becoming a victim. ⚠️ HOW THE SCAM WORKS: Scammers contact individuals by phone, claiming to be a deputy, law enforcement officer, or court official. They tell the person that they have failed to appear for jury duty and that a warrant has been issued for their arrest. The scammer then demands immediate payment of a fine to avoid being arrested. In some cases, they may use the names of actual law enforcement officers, provide fake badge numbers, or manipulate caller ID to make the call appear to originate from a legitimate law enforcement agency. 💰 BEWARE OF BITCOIN AND CRYPTOCURRENCY PAYMENTS! One increasingly common tactic involves scammers instructing victims to make payments using Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies. Victims may be directed to withdraw cash from their bank and take it to a Bitcoin ATM or cryptocurrency kiosk, which can sometimes be found inside convenience stores, gas stations, or other retail locations. The scammer may provide a QR code or instructions for transferring the money into a cryptocurrency wallet that they control. While we are currently warning residents about jury duty scams, cryptocurrency payment demands are also commonly associated with other fraudulent schemes, including fake government threats, tech support scams, romance scams, and fraudulent investment opportunities. Regardless of the reason provided, if someone contacts you unexpectedly and demands payment through a Bitcoin ATM or cryptocurrency transfer, consider it a major warning sign of a scam. Once cryptocurrency is transferred, the transaction is generally irreversible, making it extremely difficult, if not impossible, for victims to recover their money. 🚫 REMEMBER: THE NEW KENT COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE WILL NEVER: Call you and demand payment for missing jury duty to avoid arrest. Instruct you to purchase Bitcoin or another cryptocurrency to pay a fine or resolve a warrant. Direct you to a Bitcoin ATM, gift card retailer, or payment application to settle a criminal or court-related matter. Threaten to immediately arrest you if you refuse to make a payment over the phone. ✅ WHAT SHOULD YOU DO? If you receive a suspicious call, HANG UP! Do not provide personal information, banking details, or any form of payment. If you are uncertain whether the call is legitimate, contact the Sheriff’s Office directly at 804-966-9500 using a number you independently verify rather than a number provided by the caller. If you have already sent money or believe you have been a victim of this scam, contact law enforcement immediately. 📢 PLEASE SHARE THIS WARNING! These scammers can be very convincing and often use fear, intimidation, and urgency to pressure people into making payments before they have time to question the situation. We encourage everyone to discuss these scams with family members, friends, and neighbors, particularly those who may be unfamiliar with Bitcoin or cryptocurrency transactions. Remember: No legitimate law enforcement agency or court will require you to pay in Bitcoin to avoid arrest.

💙 THANK YOU FOR A GREAT NIGHT OF FAITH & BLUE! 💙 The New Kent County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank everyone who came out and joined us for our Faith & Blue Community Kickball Game last night! While there was plenty of fun, friendly competition, and laughter on the field, the evening was about much more than kickball. It was an opportunity to come together as a community, strengthen relationships, enjoy fellowship, and build meaningful connections between law enforcement and the citizens we are proud to serve. Events like this remind us that strong communities are built through trust, partnerships, and simply taking the time to get to know one another outside of our everyday roles. We are grateful to everyone who participated, cheered from the sidelines, helped organize the event, or simply stopped by to spend the evening with us. Your support and involvement are what make events like this so special! We had a great time and are already looking forward to doing it all again next year! 💙 Thank you, New Kent County, for making this year’s Faith & Blue Kickball Game a success! 🐾 A GENEROUS GIFT FOR K-9 KNOX 🐾 The New Kent Sheriff’s Office would like to extend a sincere thank you to Brenda Woods for her incredibly generous donation of a K9 Storm ballistic vest for K-9 Knox. Knox works alongside his handler in situations that can place him directly in harm’s way, including tracking suspects, searching for evidence, assisting with narcotics investigations, and supporting deputies during dangerous calls for service. Much like the body armor worn by our deputies, Knox’s new vest provides an additional layer of protection over vital areas of his body while still allowing him the mobility and freedom of movement needed to run, jump, track, search, and perform his duties. For a working K-9, quality protective equipment can make a critical difference. These dogs willingly go into situations most people would never be asked to face, and giving them the best protection available is one of the most important things we can do for them. Brenda, thank you for your generosity, your support of K-9 Knox, and your commitment to helping keep one of our four-legged deputies safe. This donation means more than just providing Knox with a piece of equipment—it helps protect a valued member of the New Kent Sheriff’s Office family and allows him to continue safely serving the citizens of New Kent County. We are incredibly grateful for your support. 💙
