"Just as we cannot define the shape of water without reference to the container in which it exists, we cannot define capitalism without reference to the society in which it operates." #amwriting #oncapitalism
If you're feeling a bit of imposter syndrome, try this: copy your resume (leave name out and delete personal details!) into ChatGPT and ask it to write you a letter of recommendation for whatever the next job is you want. Tell it which characteristics to stress. It's awesome.
Please read, and don't fall into doomerism-as Professor Hayhoe says, every bit of warming matters and the efforts we take to mitigate temperature rise matter, even if we can't stop it or reverse the clock. #IPCC #climatechange @KHayhoe
Here are the big takeaways from the @IPCC_CH Synthesis Report released today.
First, climate change has already caused widespread and substantial losses to almost every aspect of human life on this planet, and the impacts on future generations depend on the choices we make NOW.

Thought of the day: Yes, all of your students are using ChatGPT to complete their assignments. No, I have no idea what to do about that. Thank you.

Spent some quality time this morning chatting with #chatgpt about #capitalism. It's like having a conversation with a slightly out-of-touch but well-intentioned colleague who pretends to know about everything and can usually fake their way into sounding like an expert.
Everyone can relax now. #chatGPT

Capitalism will always create contradictory understandings and experiences because capitalism does not exist in a vacuum—it absorbs, shapes, and is shaped by its social, economic, and political context.
Just as we cannot define the shape of water without reference to the container in which it exists, we cannot define #capitalism without reference to the society in which it operates.
You would be amazed how much time I spend defending the very basic notion that quality teaching requires ongoing professional development. So. Much. Time. So Much. Resistance.
Only a deep utility nerd can truly appreciate this.
Because you are incapable of precise definition.
Because you balance competing interests.
Because you are not bound by any single formula.
You are --- Just and reasonable
