The Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA) is pleased to announce the Africa Agroecology Entrepreneurship and Food Systems Week, taking place from 1 to 4 December 2026 in Abuja, Nigeria, under the theme โ€œTaste Africa and Grow Africa: Through Agroecological Foods, Enterprises and Food Sovereignty.โ€ Bringing together agroecological entrepreneurs, farmers, civil society organisations, policymakers, researchers, financiers, market actors and development partners from across Africa, this four-day continental gathering will advance a shared vision for thriving African food enterprises, stronger territorial markets, healthy African diets and food systems rooted in African knowledge, culture and sovereignty. The Week will feature two major continental events: On 1โ€“2 December, the 3rd African Agroecological Entrepreneurship (AEE) Convening, under the theme โ€œBreaking Barriers to Scale: Unlocking Opportunities for Agroecological Entrepreneurship and Territorial Markets in Africa,โ€ will focus on overcoming barriers to finance, market access, investment and supportive policies, while creating practical opportunities for African agroecological enterprises to grow. On 3โ€“4 December, the 6th Biennial Food Systems Conference, under the theme โ€œThe Battle for the African Diet: Ultra-Processed Foods and the Future of Food Sovereignty,โ€ will examine how industrial food systems and changing retail markets are reshaping African diets, threatening indigenous food cultures and farmer livelihoods, and what it will take to protect Africaโ€™s food diversity, strengthen community control and reclaim the future of African food. Four days. Two major gatherings. One powerful African movement for food sovereignty. Together, these events will connect economic opportunity with cultural pride, amplify African solutions and strengthen collective action for food systems that serve African people and communities. Stay tuned for further announcements, programme details, and information on how to join selected sessions virtually. We look forward to bringing together AFSA members, partners, allies and food systems advocates across Africa and beyond to help shape the future of African food. #SaveTheDate #Agroecology #FoodSovereignty #AfricanFoodSystems #TasteAfricaGrowAfrica #MyFoodIsAfrican

Farmer exchange visits accelerate the adoption of agroecology by translating abstract theory into tangible, localized practice. Because agroecological systems rely heavily on complex ecological relationships such as organic composting, soil regeneration, & biodiversity management

#Agroecological practices is not just a farming method, its a fundamental human right. As global leaders gather for #FS54 in Rome, we must center local food sovereighty ,soil health and dignity for smallholder farmers. Real food security starts with human rights #RightToFood

The Declaration sets out six key demands: putting adaptation, agriculture and food security at the centre of implementation, making climate finance accessible and locally accountable, funding African led agroecology and seed sovereignty, supporting a people centred just transition, making nutrition, health, gender and pastoralism visible in climate action, and building an African accountability architecture from Addis to communities. "Africa must not wait for its food and climate future to be designed elsewhere. Our evidence must influence decisions, our solutions must be recognised, and climate finance must reach the people and places where adaptation is already happening." The real test for #COP31 and #COP32 will not be the number of declarations adopted, but whether a farmer can withstand the next failed rainy season, a pastoralist can access water and grazing, and a child can grow up nourished rather than stunted by drought.
