In Romans 10:2 it says, “For I bear them record that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.” Paul’s talking about his own people, Israel. He’s acknowledging that their devotion to God is genuine, but it’s missing the full revelation of who God is in Christ. They’re worshiping the same God their fathers knew, but without recognizing the One He sent. That’s why Paul’s heart breaks for them in the very next verse, because zeal without truth can’t bring salvation. So it’s not that they don’t seek God, it’s that they don’t yet see that the God they’re seeking is revealed in Jesus. And just like Paul, I pray for the day their blindness is lifted and they mourn for the one they pierced, just as the Prophet Zechariah foretold.
