As 2026 begins, we’re looking back at India’s #InternetShutdown in 2025.
This wrap-up takes a closer look at the data, patterns, and trends from the past year, not just to count shutdowns, but to understand what they mean for people and for India’s digital freedoms.

Airtel users in East Delhi have received messages from the service provider regarding the temporary suspension of internet services in the area. No such order for the temporary suspension of services in the region has been made public yet.

As per news reports, Internet Shutdown imposed in Delhi within 4 KM radius of Janpath- Kartavya Path ahead of the Jantar Mantar Protest on 10th October 2026 demanding resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The Supreme Court, in Anuradha Bhasin v. Union of India, has also held that suspension orders must provide clear reasons and supporting material demonstrating the necessity and proportionality of the shutdown.

Mobile internet services have been suspended in and around Jantar Mantar, Delhi, ahead of a protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
