And especially teenagers there's never gonna be a shortage of, one learns (at some point in life, sometimes really late) and another one is born again.

It's always been a problem, though I think it has gotten better over the years. I doubt it will ever go away tho, the world is full of people of which some are not socially skilled, or they're teens who have not yet learned about consent, or different cultures..

Say the hourly rate is 40€/h. A sketch takes an hour, then you charge 40€+other running costs (communication, taxes, tools) for the sketch. A finished drawing takes 4 hours, then that should be valued no less than 160€+other running costs.
24
Yes thats why you should raise your hourly rate to the point where there is just the right amount of demand. Thats why there should not be any type of work you do that has lower value.

You should aim to charge the same hour rate regardless of the type of image. Your time is not less valuable on bigger projects. The exceptions are when your time is even more valuable: rush orders, working on holidays, working at cons.

It's more of a move based on personal values. But there is also a thing worth considering that future isn't always exactly predictable, sometimes the more failsafe less profitable thing is better, but ultimately you can't know for certain.

Checking on ppl who aren't on fediverse/mastodon or artists that don't post on FA, in hopes that maybe they'll announce having made a profile.

I often find myself explaining to others why I don't do all the things that interest me in life.. because there is literally not enough time available, you have to choose, time doesn't magically expand itself on will.

It's wild how this same applys for literally any job ever and seeing people not understand the simple concept is.. scary? Also eyeopening.

These details don't matter for understanding the point. It doesn't matter what kind of qualiry you draw, the idea of money per hour rate is still the same regardless, and there is a maximum amount of hours in a month one person can output.
