Alexander Gertz, Jahrgang 1995, ging nach Russlands Überfall in die Ukraine, das Heimatland seiner Mutter. Erst brachte er Hilfsgüter und evakuierte Zivilisten, später wurde er Frontsanitäter der ukrainischen Armee. Über 3.000 Soldaten hat er in taktischer Medizin ausgebildet.
Sein Buch „Im Schatten der Drohnen“ erzählt von Todesangst, Verlust und Menschlichkeit – und davon, Sterbende nicht allein zu lassen.
Besonders berührend finde ich seine Schilderung, dass Hilfe manchmal bedeutet, bei einem Sterbenden zu bleiben, seine Hand zu halten und mit ihm zu sprechen, wenn eine Rettung nicht mehr möglich ist. Er beschreibt darin einen Sinn seiner Arbeit: Menschen in diesen letzten Momenten nicht allein zu lassen. Seine Zukunft sieht er nach eigener Aussage eher in der Ukraine; eine Rückkehr zum Leben in Deutschland kann er sich derzeit kaum vorstellen

Doctors are now fighting to save the lives of people injured in the Russian strike on Kramatorsk. As of now, 30 people have been confirmed killed, and sadly, that number may rise. The Russian bomb effectively hit two city minibuses. Some of those killed have still not been identified because of the severity of their injuries. My condolences to all their families and loved ones. Another 18 people were injured in the strike. Residential buildings and cars were also damaged.
This strike will not go unanswered. Russia is trying to destroy all life in Donbas, and a response from the world is a must. A forceful response – exactly as the Russians deserve for all the deaths they have brought. May all those killed rest in peace.

IN UKRAINE 🇺🇦 a shootout occurred between 2 law enforcement agencies.
Officers from the Security Bureau of Ukraine (SBU) opened fire against officers from Ukraine's military intelligence agency (GUR). At least 10 officers are receiving treatment for bullet wounds.
The conflict is related to SBU arresting Stepan Kaplunov, deputy commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK) - a paramilitary special forces unit in GUR consisting of russians fighting for #Ukraine 🇺🇦
The commander of GUR SOF unit “Timur” and the commander of SBU “Alpha” Unit allegedly met and “solved the misunderstanding in relation to the arrest of Kaplunov and agreed on future cooperation.
The next morning, SBU officers started arresting unarmed members of GUR. When the GUR officers started resisting, #SBU opened fire - also against unarmed members of #GUR who had “their hands up”.

It was from Russia that the first missiles and the first drones came, and they crossed our country’s border from Russian airspace. This escalation cannot and will not remain confined to Ukrainian territory.
Today, we want to warn every airline that uses Russian airspace, every insurer, and everyone who still uses Russia’s key airports: Russian airspace is becoming completely unsafe. Ukraine does not threaten civilian aviation as such – not a single civilian aircraft. There will simply be drones in Russia’s skies on a scale that has to be taken into account. Although the Russian authorities are not properly informing people about this, Russian airspace will effectively be closing – the war started by Russia is closing its skies.
We in Ukraine do not want innocent lives to be lost. That is why we are warning our partners: the safe days in Russia’s skies are over. It is important that this is heard by the ambassadors of countries represented here in Ukraine, as well as by ambassadors working in Moscow. Every one of them knows exactly what Russia’s war means for our country and our people, and they must convey this information to their capitals. It is important that the airlines currently flying to airports primarily in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and other key destinations in Russia hear this as well.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and our other institutions will provide international organizations with full information about the dangers in Russian airspace. Drone-infested skies are no place for civilian aviation.

We keep losing the best of us, and somehow there are still moments when it feels impossible to understand just how much this war keeps taking.
Danylo “Surfer” Smyrnov was killed defending Ukraine. He was the young commander of Young Killers Group, ambitious, brave and already deeply respected by the people around him despite his age. He joined the Territorial Defense when he was only 16 and signed his military contract at 18. He had already taken on responsibilities that many people twice his age would struggle to carry.
Looking through the photos of Danylo and his wife makes this one especially difficult. They looked like such a young, modern power couple, building their life together in the middle of a war while he was also building his team and becoming the commander and man that others trusted and followed. They were supposed to have years ahead of them.
And now his wife is left to continue that life without him, carrying their little son who is due to be born in only a few weeks. A baby who will grow up knowing his father through photographs, stories and the memories of everyone who knew and loved him.
Her words are probably the hardest part: “In a few weeks his continuation, our son, little Smyrnov, is supposed to be born. After that I will take revenge.”
Someone who knew him from the beginning also wrote that on 24 February 2023, when Danylo was not even 18 yet, they sat together calling people and commanders trying to find a way for him to serve. Every call ended with people telling him that he did not need this, that it was frightening and nothing like he imagined. But he could not be stopped. He had fire in his eyes.
That tells you quite a lot about who Danylo “Surfer” Smyrnov was.
A young husband. A father who should have had the chance to meet his son. A commander. A defender of Ukraine and another one of the best of us who should have had so much more time.
Rest in peace, Surfer.
You deserved to come home, grow old with your wife and hold your son in your arms. 🇺🇦

The TARHAN 3K can go into dangerous areas where sending a person means putting another life directly at risk. It can transport supplies and equipment and take over tasks that would otherwise mean another soldier spending more time exposed to drones, artillery and enemy fire.
The Matrice 4T gives the guys eyes in the sky, including at night. Being able to see what is happening before moving people or equipment gives them better situational awareness and helps them make decisions without unnecessarily putting people into danger.
Different equipment, but ultimately the same purpose: doing dangerous work without unnecessarily risking another Ukrainian soldier.
