*NELFUND 2026/2027 APPLICATIONS: INSTITUTIONAL UPDATES AND REPORTED CHALLENGES RECEIVED-FROM STUDENTS.*
As of October 2026, applications for the 2026/2027 academic session are ongoing through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) portal. However, the readiness of institutions varies, as some have updated their student records and school fees, while others are still addressing administrative and technical issues affecting applicants.
channel on WhatsApp: whatsapp.com/channel/0029Vb6…
Bayero University Kano (BUK) and Lagos State University (LASU) have announced application deadlines of 31 December 2026. Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo, has reportedly received over 5,000 applications. Other institutions reported to have activated their application processes include Federal Polytechnic Ohodo, Federal Polytechnic Kaltungo and Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU).
Support desks have also been established in several institutions in Anambra State, including Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Federal Polytechnic Oko, the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Federal College of Education (Technical), Umunze, and the National Teachers’ Institute to assist students with application-related enquiries.
Despite these developments, some applicants continue to experience challenges. At Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, reports indicate discrepancies between the school fees displayed on the NELFUND portal and the actual fees charged by the institution. Affected students have reportedly been advised to exercise patience while the institution’s NELFUND desk works to address the issue.
At Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), some returning applicants have reportedly observed loan records assigned to future academic levels. The issue has been linked to adjustments in the university’s academic calendar and the alignment of institutional records with NELFUND’s session-tracking system.
Similarly, the University of Uyo (UNIUYO) reportedly suspended further 2026/2027 applications temporarily to finalise and upload the appropriate school fees for the new session.
Other reported challenges across institutions include upkeep statuses displaying as “Pending,” or blank, discrepancies in school-fee amounts, missing or unrecognised student records, and bank verification or BVN-related errors. On 19 October 2026, we issued an advisory concerning possible temporary technical disruptions affecting bank verification.

Applicants experiencing these challenges are advised to confirm their records and sessional fees with their institutions’ NELFUND liaison offices. Students should also ensure that their personal details and bank information are accurate before submitting their applications.
Applications should be submitted only through the official NELFUND portal: portal.nelf.gov.ng/
Students are encouraged to rely on official announcements from NELFUND only and their respective institutions for confirmed updates, particularly where application availability, payment processing, or verification issues remain unresolved.
Important: The institution-specific developments above should be treated as reported information unless supported by special notices from various institutions.
Students should confirm the current status directly with their institutions before acting on any instruction given by random individuals.
