I tweet about the things I don't like: severe chronic illness / ableism / toxic positivity / medical gaslighting / dysautonomia / MEcfs / autoimmunity

Thank you so much! I'm a Black, nonbinary long covid/ME survivor struggling to keep up with bills, rent, groceries, everything really. Anything would be a huge help. My venmo is Adam-Manson-3

Tbh it bothers me when ppl clearly think “therapy speak” is this inherently liberating thing when it just gave a lot of ppl who wanted to be selfish a more formalized & clinical vocabulary to justify their self interest & flat out refusal to participate in collective society

The two things that permanently lowered my #POTS #dysautonomia baseline: - a kidney infection - a vax The common factor is "immune activation" so yeah I try to avoid everything that activates my immune system. Especially on this level of illness and without treatment or care.

I remember binge-watching this, and then the next day I unexpectedly ended up in the ICU because of a kidney-related issue. Definitely not something I'd recommend watching right before ending up in the ICU 😭
‘American Horror Story: Asylum’ premiered 14 years ago today.

The confected outrage and pettiness whenever there is media attention on #MyalgicEncephalomyelitis in the "covid era" from some in the LC "community" is pathetic. If it was reported the person was diagnosed with POTS, cardiac disease, diabetes, or basically anything else...

knew this article would divided the people in the community. What's odd to me is a handful of people refuse to acknowledge her diagnosis of ME. and only say long covid long covid long covid. she prob. should have both Dxs and it's really insulting to people with ME to exclude it
For Dobbin it all started with back-to-back Covid and glandular fever infections in the winter of 2021-22. She had not been unwell with either, only discovering she had contracted both through retrospective tests. She now has ME per the article.

Very ableist "Born with Cerebral Palsy, he never – ever – allowed that challenge to be an excuse for anything."
Bryan Cranston pays tribute to RJ Mitte “I’m in deep despair as I write this tonight. RJ Mitte, my sweet son on 'Breaking Bad' has died. I met him when he was only 14 years old when he was cast as Walter White Jr., a part he played with such joy and enthusiasm. Born with Cerebral Palsy, he never – ever – allowed that challenge to be an excuse for anything. He met the demanding shooting schedule head on with great determination" “Always listening to the advice that his TV parents (Anna Gunn and myself) gave him – but being a teenager, sometimes mischievously ignoring the counsel in order to learn the hard way… He was one of the stars of a hit TV show – but still a kid. That kid was pretty raw when we started shooting the pilot in February of 2007, but little by little we watched him grow into a really fine actor. He parlayed his experience on the show to be a vocal advocate for performers with disabilities, and was the head of a philanthropic organization with a focus on helping the disabled community. All that promise and potential now is such a loss" “It is especially devastating to hear that he took his own life,” he wrote. “Why? We were texting each other just a few weeks ago – figuring out when we could meet for lunch. I don’t know if that lunch would have changed his future… But I do know that I loved him, and thoroughly enjoyed being with him throughout the years on the series, and after the spotlight on 'Breaking Bad' dimmed… I’ll miss you, son"

That kinda "validation" is 100% my experience + is what made me distrust healthcare a lot. It's the "empathic" way of gaslighting. Building trust and acknowledging suffering, only to wrongly psychologize later. That's more fucked up than simply not believing me from the start.

3) The paper highlights several teams such as that ME/CFS patients often end up in no-man's-land, that it's important to validate their experiences, build trust and offer a potential explanation for their symptoms in terms of stress and the body's alarms systems.

1 🇳🇴) In this Norwegian study, therapists using a psychosomatic approach to ME/CFS expressed "concern about how current approaches might be viewed if future research were to establish a treatable biological dysfunction."

You are not “winning” if you have to lie and manipulate to get what you want. You are not “successful” if you had to harm people to get to where you are. You are not “having your way” if your way was made through coercion, dark tactics and hidden motives. People who tell the truth, treat people right, and have a pure heart are the only ones winning. The rest of you are just parasites happy to have found people to feed off of.
