We really enjoyed having @JoeEHanley to speak as part of our seminar series yesterday. We had planned to post throughout but got caught up in such an engaging and important discussion on public perceptions of social work and the impact on social work identity. Thanks so much Joe!
It was great to have been able to speak to so many people today at the webinar organised by @StrathSWSPKE on The Social Work Public Perception Myth. The questions and engagement after the presentation were very motivating. I look forward to keeping the conversation going.

It’s that time of the year again! More than 10 social policy students @StrathSWSPKE have signed up for the Placement module and are keen to contribute to the work of local third sector and governmental organizations. DM if you can host (one) of them and want to know more!
I am organising a Placement module for 3rd year students in Social policy at Strathclyde @StrathSWSPKE. If your organization does relevant work (if based in Glasgow it’s a bonus) and would like to host a student between January and April, please do get in touch!

Reducing child poverty would decrease infant mortality, number of children looked after, malnutrition and emergency hospital admissions - particularly benefiting the North of England @_HENorth
Great to see our modelling study looking at the impact of reducing child poverty on health inequalities getting picked up in the media today. Full paper available in @JECH_BMJ here ➡️ doi.org/10.1136/jech-2024-22…

People in the UK believe in justice and compassion. But those values are being undermined by growing inequality and insecurity. Our #manifesto shows how we can change that. The next UK government can work on #SecuringOurFuture, free from unjust poverty. povertyalliance.org/manifest…

Hard to come to any other conclusion that poverty is a major contributor to preventable child deaths in the UK. Data below relates to England and Wales, so I wonder how welfare benefit mitigations for families in N Ireland and Scotland are impacting on this trend?
Today's @ONS stats show the devastating impacts of extreme poverty and deprivation on children's life chances. The mortality rate for infants living in the most deprived areas in England was almost 3x higher than in the least deprived. ❌ This is not okay.
