Today's Twitter Poll: Do you think the first past the post (FPTP) system has worked well, or should we move closer to a form of proportional representation (PR)?
Rough glossary:
First Past The Post: Current system where each constituency elects person who got most votes, all other votes are then mostly irrelevant.
Proportional Representation: All votes count as (through various different mechanisms) number of seats is made to more closely matches the percentage of the national vote.

A massive majority on 36% of the vote is just ridiculous. We desperately need proportional representation.

If Labour get 45% of the vote, what proportion of seats should they get?

The last line says it all. These people will be back. Unless Labour do the responsible thing and introduce electoral reform. Which they won’t.
Why has it taken voters so long to turn? Cameron applied outdated Thatcherism in response to a global financial crash..and accidentally lost a referendum..May was submerged by Brexit civil war..Johnson was least suited for complexities and scrutiny of leadership of any Tory PM in history ..Truss… and now Sunak again seeking a return to 1980s Thatcherism..hailing his plan without explaining what it is. Unsurprisingly UK is poor and dysfunctional…it took a long time for voters to make the connections…but they have now and there’s no way back for Sunak and his party. In opposition the Tories need a debate they avoided between 97-2010 about where they went wrong and why… but looks like the right wing English exceptionalists will dominate the post mortem.. in which case there’ll be more post mortems after this one.

Well done! My congratulations. 👏👏👏
Appears there is now at least one of the eNOGs prepared finally to take a stand, long overdue but very, very welcome.
Question becomes who's next and as a sector do they have the leadership to see this through and win it?

We’ve scaled the scaffolding at Labour’s London HQ to remind Keir Starmer what he once said about proportional representation.

Proportional representation is the most popular form of democracy for countries in the world today. It's the simple idea that the strength of each faction in parliament should closely match their popularity in the country. For many people, that's what living in a democracy means.
Britain could well be heading for seismic electoral reform that'll keep the Left in power for ever. And Starmer may sign up to it without voters even getting a say mailplus.co.uk/edition/comme… via @mailplus

What Wikipedia did: we stood strong for our principles and fought to the Supreme Court of Turkey and won. This is what it means to treat freedom of expression as a principle rather than a slogan.

Imagine lying to get the Brexit you wanted, ousting May, sacking 21 MPs, installing Johnson, illegally proroguing parliament, settling for a mediocre leave-supporting cabinet, putting the GFA at risk, voting for Truss and still believing that it’s someone else’s fault.

This sounds about right. US and UK both went for austerity after GFC, undermining central bank efforts to lift growth. Then in 21/22 borrowed when this undermined central bank efforts to contain inflation. – at Hackney, London

Thinking about economic policy more generally, it’s entirely plausible economic historians will say that the Conservative govt of the early 2010s deflated when it should have reflated and it’s 2020s successor did the opposite.
