ALT I'M WATCHING the Welsh Open Snooker final, and the commentator has just said of one of the players that "he really knows his way around the table". Now I know the tables are pretty big, but these are professional sportsmen, so I'm sure most of them can navigate their way round the thing. As a rule of thumb, as long as they simply keep going consistently left or right at the corners, they will eventually find their way back to their seat. And if they did get lost, they could always ask the referee for directions. Ken Jenkins, Kings Langley

Hi Roger, Tom from @thetimes here. I’m writing a story on #Stonehenge. Do you want to comment for the article?
My reply:
Last month a gathering of the world's leading scientists decided there was a 40% chance of the AMOC current collapsing in the 2030s - which will lead to a 10-30C fall in winter temperatures in the UK - i.e., the permanent inability to grow food at scale and thus mass migration and/or starvation.
As any conservative social Darwinist knows - a society only survives if it can respond and adapt effectively to existential threats - i.e., focus on the message not the messenger.
For further info on AMOC from expert Prof. S. Rahmstorf, Potsdam Inst.
"They show how particularly northern Europe from Britain to Scandinavia would suffer devastating impacts, such as a cooling of winter temperatures by between 10 °C and 30 °C occurring within a century, leading to a completely different climate within a decade or two, in line with paleo climatic evidence about abrupt ocean circulation changes. In addition they show major shifts in tropical rainfall belts. These (and many more) impacts of an AMOC collapse have been known for a long time but thus far have not been shown in a climate model of such high quality."
"Overall the new study adds significantly to the rising concern about an AMOC collapse in the not too distant future. It thus adds even more weight to recent reports sounding strong warning sirens, such as the OECD Climate Tipping Points report of December 2022 and the Global Tipping Points report published December 2023. We will continue to ignore this risk at our peril."

“Conservative NHS group want ‘private wings’ of hospitals”
NHS sold off to the highest/lowest bidder in plans for Tories and Reform Ltd. And by how much do they plan to personally benefit?

I just cancelled my Adobe licence after many years as a customer.
The new terms give Adobe "worldwide royalty-free licence to reproduce, display, distribute" or do whatever they want with any content I produce using their software.
This is beyond insane. No creator in their right mind can accept this .
You pay a huge monthly subscription and they want to own your content and your entire business as well.
Going to have to learn some new tools.

I’m not sure there is anything anyone can say to make people face this now. Intelligent people see catastrophic warnings from scientists as hysteria. If you are calm it conveys a lack of urgency. If you are fearful and panicked - which is appropriate - people think you are crazy. Scientific reality is being ignored - with soon to be globally catastrophic consequences itv.com/news/2019-11-05/scie…

Every single time the Conservatives come to power they increase the size of NHS waiting lists.
Please don't let them blame it on Covid or anything else; they were doing exactly the same thing in the 90s.
Please RT if you think everyone should be clear on this.

The kind of front page historians may one day analyse in disbelief. Scientists have run out of words to tell us how serious an emergency this is. And still both main parties bury their heads in the sand

These are the words of 100s of the world’s leading climate scientists as we learn global temps are expected to rise to a terrifying 2.5C
But sure, let's listen to Farage again.

What terrifies the hell out of me about this unprecedented high rainfall over the last 18 months, and the huge impacts on British agriculture. Is the total denial, and the complete lack of joined up thinking. This is what lay behind my recent posts on this.
