Chris Gaffaney was taken ill on the first morning. Arno was 4th umpire but couldn’t do 3rd ump because he’s never been TV ump before. So Kettleborough stayed 3rd and Jacobs made his unexpected debut.
Standing umpires Richard Illingworth and Arno Jacobs + (reserve) 4th umpire Evan van der Merwe trudge around sodden St.George’s Park outfield. It’s not going to dry out. Fear a washout looming. Or mud-out…

These dry, abrasive patches right next to the Durban Test pitch. Could be a tough match for the ‘keepers, taking throws on the half-volley from the outfield.
Good on you, Neil! Let’s hope the quality of cricket is high enough to distract from any other ‘nonsense’…!
Hi there!
I'll be listening to your commentary during the Test Series: Proteas v Australia, all the best and let's hope for some great cricket 🏏!
@NeilManthorp
I take full responsibility for my misinterpretation and apologise. Not in mitigation, but the press release could have been better worded! And I’m not alone in misunderstanding. Still, all those ‘new’ catches should be allowed! Bloody batter’s game…
Just listened. @NeilManthorp you have misinterpreted the law regarding the boundary catch which incensed you. Fielder can start from inside the field of play, parry it up & catch. It's only when the fielder starts from outside the field of play can he only touch the ball once.
