Ben Solomon: Memorization should not be a dirty word in math. Adults are the problem, NOT kids. Kids are proud when they memorize math facts. This is essential for later math.

Students want to explore! No more scripts!
Parents want it, too!
Hey, so do a great number of educators.
So let’s have teachers improvise their scripts on the fly.
This’ll surely help the kids who need the most support.

In other words, the ocean is wet. Once again, I’m not dismissing that teacher student relationships are good, but they are far from necessary for student learning.
This term as a teacher practice didn’t even exist a few decades ago. Our students were expected to learn no matter who the teacher was or their personality. And I’m not excusing teacher abuse.
BUT enough of this focus on teachers needing to personally “connect” with students for effective instruction and learning. It doesn’t work. Let’s focus on teachers delivering high quality instruction. If a relationship forms great, but it should not be the goal. The goal is learning.

So let's talk about the degrees of rape in New York, what is required for each, and why Jane Doe's statements to police make this an unappealing prosecution.
And to get ahead of this: things can be both hard to prosecute under existing law and morally wrong. /1

A new review of texts from US grad schools of education asks: what are new teachers actually being taught? Some of the advice is quite concerning.

The best bit in this piece. NHJ precisely names the issue, but it’s sandwiched between less accurate, more funding-oriented diagnoses.
The thing to check in any school—public or private, large or small, cheap or expensive—is if the teachers care enough to have high expectations.
This Canadian woman was given MAID as her only choice for stage 4 cancer in Deathcare Canada. She went to the US and death was not the option the doctors there gave her.
Canadian healthcare used to be good, it is now in desperate fear of collapse. They're bringing in doctors who did not study in Canada and whatever else that entails.
I find the healthcare in the US unquestionably superior. Health insurance is the same since I don't pay income tax in Florida, I pay it on insurance. There is immediate, private healthcare if you need it.
Medically assisted suicide is not an option they offer.

Teachers are functionally a modern priestly cast.
Maybe we shouldn’t be filling their heads with critical theory mumbo jumbo and then sticking them in front of the next generation

Muslims commit the worst atrocities in history. Hitler learned from them - the Holocaust was inspired by what the Ottoman Turks did to the Armenian and Greek Christians. Islam is a cult of sadistic genocidal violence and that’s all it is. Islam is a death cult.
They Threw Them In Because Bullets Cost Money
Ottoman forces called it economical.
Tens of thousands of Armenians were marched to Kemah Gorge in 1915.
Bullets cost money. Cliffs didn't.
So they pushed people into the ravine instead.
The Euphrates did the rest.
The current carried the bodies away.
That cleared space for the next group.
It was designed that way, not accidental.
Some girls didn't wait to be pushed.
They jumped first, to escape something worse than the fall.
U.S. Ambassador Henry Morgenthau documented children bayoneted and thrown into the river.
He called it exactly what it was.
The operation had a name.
It was run by the Ottoman Special Organization.
A doctor, Bahaeddin Şakir, personally oversaw the killings at Kemah.
Tens of thousands never made it past the gorge.

Thirteen-year-old Jake passed away just two weeks before his 14th birthday after what his mum thought was just severe hay fever turned out to be an aggressive cancer 💔
Before he was diagnosed, Jake's mum Lynsey was giving him antihistamines before school because he had a stuffy nose and watery eyes.
She put his sheer exhaustion down to the warm summer weather and the end of the school term.
But when a swelling appeared across the bridge of his nose, an X-ray at Salisbury District Hospital revealed a mass in his nasal cavity.
Jake was diagnosed with stage 3 fusion-positive alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare soft-tissue cancer, in July 2023.
He went through nine rounds of chemotherapy and 28 sessions of proton beam radiotherapy in London, but the cancer still spread to his lymph nodes.
When further chemotherapy caused severe seizures that placed him in intensive care, Jake made the brave decision to stop his treatment entirely.
Lynsey said he was incredibly calm about it, simply telling her, "We tried our best."
He even managed to joke that at least he wouldn't have to deal with the cost-of-living crisis.
Jake passed away peacefully at home on April 26, 2024.
Before he died, he gave strict instructions for his own funeral, asking for a blue coffin and for 'Here Comes The Sun' by the Beatles to be played 💙
His final wish to his mum was that he wanted to be well-known and not forgotten.
Lynsey is now honouring that promise by joining forces with a children's cancer charity and studying radiotherapy at the University of Liverpool.
RIP Jake, you won't be forgotten 🕊️
