Please vote no. This utilization of Public Lands also violates Native Treaties. @TammyDuckworth @DickDurbin cc @JulianaStratton
The ASSAULT on nature from this administration, Doug Burgum and Mike Lee never ends.
What I didn't expect is two DEMOCRATIC Senators to be party to it. Assuming good intentions from @SenWhitehouse and @SenatorHeinrich for sponsoring this bill as way to expedite the expansion of a green energy grid, the absolute non-starters, especially now that we'll have a majority, are as follows.
1. REMOVE Section 1401 - which essentially makes any destructive permitting done by this corrupt administration permanent and legally irreversible.
2. REMOVE the agreement that allows "No Judicial Pauses."
To put this in real terms, remember how the Trump administration just cut down 429 healthy mature full growth trees in DC despite a court order, or how they began BULLDOZING Big Bend National
Park in Texas without environmental review?
Now imagine that happening on our natural lands, on tribal lands, and in protected natural habitats all across the country without any ability to stop it.
That's what these two senators have agreed to.
MAKE YOUR VOICES HEARD.

🚨 URGENT: The Senate votes Monday on a bill that would make permits on our public lands nearly impossible for ANY future president to undo.
And Trump's admin is still handing them out on those very lands right now.
They're calling it the permitting bill, and it's a sneaky one. It's far worse than the name sounds.
Any permit still in effect on September 16, 2026 gets shielded, no matter who issued it or when. Older permits count too, even decades old, if they're still active. So does every one Trump's admin signs from here on.
The thing I want you to understand is this. Federal oil and gas leases don't expire as long as they keep producing. A lease signed in the 70s or 80s is still in effect today if it's still producing. Earthjustice warns this bill makes leases like that "virtually impossible to overturn."
To change or cancel a permit, a future admin would have to prove it by "clear and convincing evidence."
Only five reasons count:
1. A court orders it.
2. The permit holder broke the law.
3. The permit was obtained through fraud.
4. The permit holder asks for it.
5. An urgent threat to life, property, or national security the original review missed.
If none apply, the permit stays. Locked in. Trumped in.
If a judge finds the government botched the environmental review under the National Environmental Policy Act, the judge can order a redo. But the judge can't cancel the permit or stop the project. The bulldozers keep running during the redo.
Tribes don't get a say until AFTER agencies have already made up their minds about work on their ancestral lands and sacred sites.
Two Democrats, Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), top Democrat on the Senate Energy Committee, and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), signed on to the bill Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) introduced, with Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah).
Voters just handed Democrats Congress. Two of them put their names on a bill that locks in Trump's permits anyway.
This sitting Congress is trying to push it through Monday. Please call your members of Congress today. We don't have much time.
I've tagged the four senators behind this. Let them know how you feel about it by saying no to the bill to your MOC.
Thank you for standing up for our public lands.

One of the first things the new Congress should do is pass legislation that requires CLARITY OF TITLE and INTENT of all bills - especially with Omnibus bills loaded with pork.
Case in point, the Senate is voting Monday on a bill that's called "Bipartisan Affordability and Jobs Act."
Sounds good right?
That bill allows this corrupt administration to make
all destructive permits they've issued on our protected lands PERMANENT, and legally irreversible.
Republicans will destroy it all.

Reports that two Uyghur men could be forcibly sent back to China are deeply troubling. Uyghurs who fled China's repression face abuse and torture if forcibly returned. International law prohibits it. I call on the Thai government to protect these men and uphold human rights.
🚨 URGENT: Two Uyghur men detained in Thailand currently face imminent deportation to China, where they risk arbitrary detention, torture, and death.
In February 2025, Thailand forcibly returned 40 Uyghur men to China. Their fates remain unknown.
Thailand must NOT repeat this atrocity.
We urgently call on Thailand to halt any deportations, on other governments to press Thailand to do the same, and on third countries to offer resettlement to all five remaining detained Uyghurs.

This would be horrible for the world! Who benefits from this? Not America
Under pressure from Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Trump administration may be within days of launching a nuclear strike on Iran. The target would be Pickax Mountain in central Iran, where Israeli intelligence claims the Iranian government has restarted its nuclear enrichment program. No conventional weapon in the American arsenal can penetrate 300 feet of solid granite to destroy the tunnels where enrichment is supposedly taking place. The only military option is a nuclear strike. Netanyahu has been pushing hard for one. “Bibi calls Trump about it every day,” says an informed observer.
Netanyahu is cornered and desperate. After last week’s election results, he can’t form a government unless Trump intervenes directly in Israeli politics and brokers a deal with other parties that gives Netanyahu 61 seats in the Knesset. Otherwise, he is out as prime minister and on his way to ignominy, investigations and possibly jail. Netanyahu must stay close to Trump. He needs this war.
To that end, he’s applied maximum pressure to his closest allies in the administration, including Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and CENTCOM commander Brad Cooper. Both oppose a negotiated settlement to the war they’ve so grievously mismanaged; both are pushing to restart major combat operations. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and CIA director John Ratcliffe are also following Netanyahu’s lead, as are leaders of the Democratic Party. In a recent meeting on the subject, former president Barack Obama said he opposes the current Iran peace deal being drafted in Doha.
The rest of America’s longtime allies in the Middle East are terrified by the prospect of more war. On September 27th, Netanyahu flew secretly to Abu Dhabi to enlist the UAE in his lobbying effort for a final attack on Iran. The Emiratis refused. After eight months of conflict, Gulf economies are teetering. So are global energy and fertilizer markets. They won’t recover soon. Globally, there are a total of about 850 supertankers used to transport oil from producers to the rest of the world. In October alone, 11 of them were badly damaged in Hormuz. At this pace, a global depression is imminent. A nuclear strike would radically accelerate the destruction. Fallout from a ground explosion at Pickax Mountain would contaminate the Persian Gulf, poisoning the water supply for 100 million people.
And those are just some of the immediate consequences for the region. The rest of the world is every bit as exposed. No country other than the United States has ever used a nuclear weapon in war. Some would like to. An American nuclear attack on Iran would set a new precedent. The Russians have already told at least two other governments that an American nuclear strike on Iran would free them to use nuclear weapons against Ukraine. Pakistan and India would be tempted to do the same against each other, as would North Korea against Seoul. After the first nuclear strike, World War Three is inevitable. That war would be short and final.
We’ve been sleepwalking toward this moment for months. Since February, the administration has quietly rewritten America’s nuclear doctrine to make first use of so-called “battlefield nukes” easier and therefore more likely. No one in Washington in either party seems bothered by this. Now we’re on the brink of it.
Close observers say Trump is likely to decide by next weekend whether or not to use nuclear weapons. That would be November 7, six days from now. To his credit, he’s hesitating. At the moment, Trump is listening to his vice president, JD Vance, and to his envoy and friend Steve Witkoff, both of whom argue a deal with Iran can be made.
They’re right, though it won’t be simple. The Iranians are famously frustrating to negotiate with under any circumstances, and elements of that government have become more radical since Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his family were killed in February. After decades of isolation, even relatively moderate Iranian leaders seem confused by how decisions are made in the West. (There is a widespread belief in Tehran, for example, that the United States government controls Israel.) But overall, people who have spoken to decision-makers in Iran say there is consensus there that more war is bad for everyone and a deal is worth making.
One group that hasn’t been consulted so far is the global population — the hundreds of millions of people who will be killed along with their children if Trump is pushed by Netanyahu into launching a nuclear strike next week. Now would be the time for them to speak up.

BREAKING: Iran is now distributing iodine tablets to communities within a two to three kilometer radius of its sensitive nuclear facilities over fears of a US nuclear attack, a Health Ministry official confirms to The Times.
"Yes, we are distributing iodine. Trump can no longer be trusted. He may go through with this crime," the official said.
"Everyone knows that very little time remains. If America does not use a nuclear weapon against Pickaxe Mountain, it will be a miracle," an Iranian analyst with close ties to the IRGC said.
Senior figures across the government, the IRGC and the regular armed forces expect Pickaxe to be among the principal targets of the coming war.
Iraq activated nuclear emergency plans and border radiation monitoring yesterday.
