We can now see oxygen in the brain! It is already providing insight into why a sedentary lifestyle risk for diseases like #Alzheimers this #URochesterResearch method via @NedergaardLab made the discovery using a protein similar to what gives a firefly its glow.

New cool data on the impact of aging on cervical lymphatic vessels in @NatureAging – and how a prostaglandin can restore function.

Online now! Cervical lymphatics drain CSF and clear metabolic waste from the brain. Du et al., show using 2P-OPTIC that these are disrupted in aging due to reduced pumping. Restoring cervical lymphatic function with PGF2a rescues brain clearance. doi.org/10.1038/s43587-024-0…

#URochesterResearch via @NatureAging shows how
scientists restored the brain’s ability to clear toxic waste in older mice with a drug that's currently used to induce labor. This points to a potential new treatment for #Alzheimers and #Parkinsons.

👇Watch the aging lymphatic system – less contractions in the older mouse (right) causing the waste to stop and flow in different directions.
