Autonomy needs energy. We brought together founders building drones, maritime systems, robotics, batteries, and alternative power sources. The opportunity isn't just better technology. It's connecting the people building it. The Energy of Autonomy 👇 risingtidepartners.substack.…

Ecosystems don't build themselves. Four years of building a water career program taught me something about technical talent, hardtech, and regional innovation. The event is one day. The ecosystem is what remains. Full download at link in bio

Today, Seasats marked its sixth anniversary with a ribbon cutting at its new 60,000-square-foot San Diego headquarters. Seasats has grown around a clear mission: closing maritime blind spots. This facility expands capacity to deliver persistent maritime awareness for defense, border protection, and commercial missions. That growth means more high-skill jobs here in San Diego and more production capability to support customers around the world. It reinforces this city’s leading role in building the maritime autonomous systems of the future. Thank you to the team, families, customers, and partners who made this milestone possible. #Seasats #MaritimeAutonomy #DefenseTech #SanDiego

AI is about to learn an old infrastructure lesson: being technically right isn’t enough. I watched water engineers learn that deployment requires trust + communication. Now data centers - and much of hard tech - are learning the same thing.

Went behind the scenes at the Safari Park with AgX. Seeds. Soil. Water. Bamboo. Manure. Lots of problems worth solving. Next: put farmers + scientists + engineers + founders together to solve them. AgX Hackathon → Nov 5 Join us - link in bio

Meet Mike Flanigan, Seasats’ CEO and co-founder. Flanigan and his partners founded Seasats after seeing the early maritime robotics industry fall short of its promises to customers. Drawing on his deep experience in USVs, cross-disciplinary engineering, and automated manufacturing, he saw a better way—and an opportunity to deliver functional, reliable systems that solve real problems: ocean autonomy that works. As CEO, Mike leads with deep technical knowledge, high standards, humility, and humor. Since the company’s inception, he has led team growth to over 100 people, closed multiple funding rounds, and built an organization that is living the promise of deploying ocean autonomy daily around the globe. Asked what he values most about Seasats, Mike points to its people: “It’s hard to think of something more rewarding than working on an important mission with great people.” #DefenseTech #MaritimeAutonomy #AutonomousSystems #Leadership #Seasats #MeetTheTeam

Over the last month, Seasats has booked more than $24 million in new orders in support of U.S. national security customers. The orders span USV procurement and Robot-as-a-Service contracts, and include Lightfish for delivery to the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Navy. They come from a range of U.S. Government customers and mission sets, reflecting growing demand for small, long-endurance USVs across a broad base of military users. This milestone marks a significant acceleration in our growth and our role as an increasingly trusted provider of operational autonomous maritime capability to the U.S. Government. Seasats CEO Mike Flanigan joined @MTSlive to discuss how unmanned surface vessels have fundamentally changed the cost equation for maritime missions. Twenty years ago, those missions depended on crewed ships, manned aircraft, and expensive satellite coverage. Today, Seasats’ Lightfish can conduct the same mission at a fraction of the cost and persist on station far longer than any aircraft can remain aloft. There’s a surprisingly dense wearables ecosystem hiding in San Diego. Google/Fitbit, Dexcom, Oura, Qualcomm, UCSD - plus founders building across glucose, hydration, breastfeeding, medication adherence, athletic performance, aging and biosensors. A lot of it within a few miles.

We put a bunch of those founders, engineers + investors around one table. The conversation went from consumer vs FDA → proprietary health data → AI → intervention → why San Diego. Then we ended the roundtable. Nobody left. That might have been the best part. Link in bio

Introducing Atlas We're building motion systems for drones, robots, and autonomous machines. Our work is in service of our customers who work factory floors, tend farmland, move medicine, and defend our country. Atlas is built to supply them quickly, and supply them in volume. Their progress should no longer be held back by a motor or actuator.

The best meeting I had recently was one I didn't schedule. I walked into the office & found our team already helping a founder. Great venture firms don't scale by adding more meetings. They scale by creating more collisions. Community isn't the product. It's the infrastructure.

For a while, @RisingTidePtr mostly lived inside my head. That doesn't scale. This summer we stopped assigning tasks & started assigning ownership. Each team member owns a funnel: → LPs → VCs → Portfolio → Community → Investments Building systems > building dependencies.
