This Saturday in Toledo, Ohio, at the Glass Bowl, the 1-2 San Diego State Aztecs of the PAC-12 will face the 2-1 Toledo Rockets of the Mid-American Conference (MAC). The Rockets are coming off a 49-48 overtime victory over the Temple Owls of the American Athletic Conference (AAC). In that game, the Rockets entered the fourth quarter down 27-21, then outscored the Owls 28-21. This game marks the Rockets' second straight victory after opening their season with a 20-30 road loss to the Michigan State Spartans of the Big Ten. The fortunes could not be worse for the Aztecs, who are coming off back-to-back dreadful losses to UCLA on the road and JMU at home, which ended their 7-game home winning streak. In both games, the Aztec offense scored 0 points in both first halves and 23 points combined. In their last 4 FBS games, the Aztecs are 0-4, with their last win coming at home on Senior Night against then-Mountain West Rival and in-state opponent San Jose State. Going into the season, there was a lot of hype surrounding the potential of the Aztecs’ offense in Year 3 of the Sean Lewis era, but the simple fact is that Aztec Fast has not returned the investment. Despite returning a good chunk of last season’s production and adding new pieces via the transfer portal, the entire offense, specifically the passing game, has regressed significantly. However, it's not too late for the men in black and red to turn things around as they embark on their first trip outside California this season. After the adversity of the last two games, a long week of preparation and reflection might be what the Aztec program needs to propel itself out of this low point and start winning games.
