Now that Witkoff has called Putin a "humanitarian," I think the Ukrainians should name something after him. Recall that the term Molotov cocktail was coined by the Finns, because the Soviet Foreign Minister insisted that incendiary bombs were "airborne humanitarian food deliveries." So the Finns called their improvised incendiary bombs, "Molotov cocktails." I don't want to get too dark, but calling children's burial shrouds, "Witkoff sheets," or prosthetic legs and arms "Witkoff limbs," or mass graves "Witkoff developments," would be poetic justice. Witkoff already has more money than he'll ever need. But making his grubby immoral sycophancy to a mass murderer an indelible part of history would have value.

By making it clear to people like you that Trump is no friend of Ukraine, and is giving relief not just to the Russians, but the Iranians as well who are armed and supported by our own money now. People like you give Trump cover “he’s just getting bad advice (like he’s some helpless child)” Or “ya but Biden….” Clearly you don’t get it. And you don’t understand that history will not forget. There will be a special place in history for those who knew better, but desperately tried to stay in MAGAs good graces.
How is this helpful to Ukraine?

Of course @marcthiessen goes after Zelensky. When maga is over, and it’s close, please don’t let this fraud pretend he was a reasonable republican the whole time. He is a Trump sycophant

Trump is a fascist. Not a metaphor. Not hyperbole. For a decade, the media refused to take him literally AND seriously. The reckoning is coming. The danger is deepening. The latest Warning: FASCIST. FULL STOP. steveschmidt.substack.com/p/…

Weird that @marcthiessen doesn’t have thoughts on the latest 3D chess from the “consummate deal maker” who *definitely* wants Ukraine to prevail.

Abstaining Against the Machine.
Tom Morello (@tmorello) says he didn't vote for Kamala Harris in 2024. "I saw how the corporate Democrat sausage is made. It is worse than you think. And there is a righteous fury at the corporate-controlled, money-controlled electoral system we have that is absolutely illegitimate. And people cannot choke down voting for a candidate, I understand it, cannot choke down voting for a candidate that's responsible for what happened in Gaza. And they just, they can't do it."

People on the left (e.g. Tom Morello) have shown repeatedly that when their vote matters most to beat Republicans, they'll throw it away on a protest. People like Sarah Longwell have shown they will vote for Dems to beat Republicans. Who would you go after if you wanted to win?

Trump's response to the AI safety crisis reminds me of the early days of COVID in 2020. He's so far out of his depth - morally, intellectually, and in terms of his ability to care about anyone else - that it's as if there were no President at all. We're on our own, people.

Seems like a great idea. For a different, smarter country that wouldn’t elect Donald Trump.
Replying to @AnthropicAI
I think there's a decent chance that within 10 years or so that the US will essentially nationalize the industry, similar to what happened with oil in many nations abroad.

Cc: @marcthiessen Trump “helping Ukraine.” 🤡😂
Trump again blames Ukraine for being invaded and bombed, and says he will be "asking" Europe to pay for munitions that Biden administration has sent to Ukraine. You are so friendly with the aggressor who made use of those munitions necessary. Why don't "ask" russia to pay you?

What is really disturbing to people like me who are in their 60s is that we probably are never going to see our country recover during our lifetime. And we have to leave our children and grandchildren to contend with this filth that MAGA left behind.
We will spend decades scrubbing the filth of Trump off this country.

Maria Bartiromo joins an endless list of people who were reasonably well respected in their professions or businesses and then they joined the Trump cult and unraveled in a steady downward spiral until their careers and reputations are in complete tatters. Never go full MAGA.

I'm not nearly as optimistic Yes, there still remains a Respectable America but it's diminishing relative to the combination of Ugly America and Complacent America. The unthinkable was elected not once, but TWICE. Moral societies deserving of existence don't elect an individual like this once never mind twice. Twice says to the world beyond our borders that we've become a nation in the gutter, one with a system that may not work in the modern era and needs constitutional overhaul before any of them ever feel that it's safe to deal with us again. Twice also verifies to the world beyond our borders what has long been felt or suspected; that the average American isn't all that knowledgeable of the world and isn't all that bright. When one is lucky to survive the Titanic the first time why nonchalantly sign up for a second voyage. Sofia, respectfully, there remain segments of America that can do great things. But it's quickly being eclipsed by the very worst of us and November 5, 2024 made that reality official before the eyes of the world who can see us with more clarity than we can.
Dear rest of the world, Please don’t judge America by what’s happening right now. Consider this a temporary interruption. We hope to resume our true selves in 2029—returning to an America we recognize and are proud to represent. 🇺🇸 Thank you for your patience. 🫡

You all are being impossibly stupid about this. Liz Cheney's entire pitch was "I don't agree with Kamala Harris on much, but Trump is a singular threat to American Democracy, so I'm gonna vote for her anyways." And that's something many of you couldn't do.
Replying to @Potioncelery
Cheney has one of the most conservative voting records in Congress. Anti-abortion, pro-torture, opposed the Violence Against Women Act, worked with Trump to dismantle Obamacare, casts immigrants as criminals, denies climate change, opposed the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, etc

I mean, think about November 5, 2024, and what this country did. It was so wrong, so obscene, it pushes my willingness to believe that it happened to the absolute limit. This country reelected a "man*" who was being actively prosecuted across four separate cases, two in particular were of an extremely serious magnitude of criminality, the Federal Election Interference case and the Federal Classified documents case. He ran to avoid prison because that's where he was rightfully headed, to use the power of the state to harass, terrorize, punish and possibly execute perceived enemies, and to leverage his power as president to become the most corrupt and wealthiest SOB who ever walked the face of the earth. Just think of the criminal conspiracy behind the 2020 election, the fake electors scheme, the pressure on officials to comply with the conspiracy, all in an attempt to illegally hold on to power and an effort that culminated in the attack on our Capitol to intimidate his VP into compliance, an attack likened to medieval hand to hand warfare for hours that resulted in loss of human life, all the while he watched on TV refusing to call for help so that the plan could gain traction. And the people in this country reelected this person. The people in this country reelected this person. Again, one more time, the people in this country reelected this person. It's beyond unbelievable. Do we even deserve to have a country? There is something serious wrong with the American citizenry. Seriously wrong. And now, he's free to destroy the republic as he is indeed doing every day, just as the better Americans among us tried to warn that he would do. It strains credulity that this proven trash is what the country saw fit to reelect on November 5, 2024, a date that will be remembered by history as the day Americans signed their own country's death warrant.
It's our population. A better one more knowledgeable and aware of what the United States has been for 250 years would have never allowed this national embarrassment, nightmare and tragedy to take place. That's not to say that there aren't responsible people among the population who do. But in aggregate, well, the world is probably wondering if we even deserve to have a country if this is the level of responsibility and seriousness the population is willing to invest in. And they're right!!!!!!! A better citizenry deserving of our inheritance would demand immediate action to remove this criminal scum and his posse of trash from the upper reaches of government immediately so that responsible people can assess the damage done to date starting today and immediately take corrective measures to save the republic. You think that's going to happen?

It does not matter if the statistic is accurate (they know it is not). All that matters is whether it can be weaponized to mobilize your gullible army of knee-jerk partisans.

another day, another doubt about reading comprehension in america
🚨 BREAKING: Newly revealed texts show Dr. Anthony Fauci privately told top Biden health officials in January 2021 that post-vaccine fever and inflammation could “theoretically” be associated with first-trimester miscarriage. Days later, Fauci publicly said there were “thus far no red flags” for pregnant women.

The campaign to demonize Fauci and other public servants is designed to convince the next generation of talented scientists and experts that serving America isn’t worth it. That’s a gift to America’s enemies. The Kremlin couldn’t have scripted it better.

“Here we are, six years after the coronavirus outbreak, and we still don’t know for sure how it started. Which is kind of important, because if we don’t know how it started, we can’t really know how to prevent the next one. And for a lot of reasons, that issue got completely politicized over the last six years. And this hearing didn’t help in that regard. It’s Kabuki. It’s a show. On both sides, actually… It’s a lot of heat and no light.” “When it comes to Fauci, in any normal situation, you could say, well, if he’s got nothing to hide, he could just talk. But we’re not in a normal environment. We’re in an environment where the Justice Department indicted Comey for an Instagram post on the beach. Fauci has a pardon, it’s not a future pardon. He doesn’t have immunity. If Rand Paul really wanted answers, he could give him immunity, but he didn’t do that. So, knowing that he could be indicted for almost anything in this era, I completely understand why he took the fifth.” “There’s a lot of evidence that Fauci seriously considered the lab leak theory, in private. But he and his friends, in public, always poo-pooed it and talked it down… There’s a ton of U.S. government information that we still have not seen. And that’s the information that led the FBI, the Department of Energy, and more recently the CIA to conclude that there’s a preponderance of evidence, not proof, but more evidence than not that the bat coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan was somehow related to the bat coronavirus labs in Wuhan.” “There’s a lot of research that American and Chinese researchers were doing in Wuhan on making bat coronaviruses more dangerous. You can call it Gain of Function or not, it doesn’t matter what you call it… The idea was to figure out how viruses might evolve so that we could prevent them. But if the viruses broke out of the lab, then we actually caused the pandemic, which is a tough thing to wrap your head around.” “This was government-sponsored research by scientists in America and China who were trying to do the right thing. They weren’t trying to start a pandemic. But they may have started a pandemic. And the fact that this is politicized means we can’t get to those answers. But those answers are still there. Something happened in Wuhan. We need to figure out what it was, so we can prevent the next pandemic.” Watch my entire segment about the Rand-Fauci hearing battle with @Boris_Sanchez on @NewsCentralCNN.
