Student in class: “Wait… that’s what [Freud] meant? That actually makes a lot of sense. Why don’t they teach it that way?”

The Journal of Personality Assessment's Special Issue on Personality Assessment in Legal Contexts is out. It is free to access. Spread the word. I am very grateful to all contributions, as well as my co-editors @tessmsneal and @corinederuiter! @SPA1938 tandfonline.com/toc/hjpa20/1…

My manuscripts would be more concise if I didn’t immediately restate most of my arguments. That is, I can shorten the length of the papers I write by not reiterating many of my statements. @AcademicsSay @AcademicChatter @FailedAcademic1 @AcerbicAcademic

Some of the best advice I’ve ever received was to start by writing a very simple outline and then spend time making the outline extremely detailed. The product is the bare bones of your paper and the rest of your writing is filler and edits to improve the readability and flow.

So-basic-it’s-stupid insight:
It’s really hard to pre-register before doing a study. It’s almost like you have to do the study once w/ total freedom & then pre-reg a 2nd almost identical study to confirm any intriguing results. It’s almost like you have to do… replications 😱

Know those delivered meal kits? How great would it be if funding agencies offered something similar to support replication research?
You pick a research interest, then they send you funding and an approved study proposal. You can even share your “cooked meal” on social media!

Imagine how many more meta-analyses would be done if we were required to submit a list of the variables used in a paper instead of key terms. You can search data repositories for included variables. Why haven’t we done the same for published studies? @Meta_Psy @EvidenceRobot
