‘If we want 2create a different future we need 2live a different present so that present can fully marinate influence & create different futurities. If we want 2live in a different present we have 2Center Indigeneity & allow it to change us”Simpson. Reclaim & speak ur language.
When I first set out in reclaiming & learning my talk-nehiyawewin, I learned the appropriate terms of family, ie nikawiy, nohtawiy, ninohkom, nimosom, oskayak-awasis, etc. I learned the original place names of our territories. My goal is 2 pass language on. This is nationhood.
As an adult emerging speaker being proficient in the language is my goal to get to that lingual space I needed to or need to link to lived experiences. My learning and reclaiming language has to be meaningful and purposeful.
nehiyawak.org At nehiyawak Mini Language Experience in Regina with @creeinstructor1 @BoyceMorin @dthunder2007 @creewithandrea - We have an amazing team of language teachers -15 years of language reclamation. Teachers teaching throughout the province of Saskatchewan.
When driving from ☝️part of the province 2 another I listen 2 alot of 🎶 in Cree from Carl Quin, Deloras Sand, Brian McDonald, (locals) I even made a CD with friends awhile back & know a dozen Cree rounddance songs. Stories too, I’ve also recorded, have tobacco on hand 4 that tho
This is only a day late, but when learning 2 think & speak An Indigenous Languages b prepared 2fail, crash & b humbled. You’re gonna make mistakes but u have 2 it’s a part of the learning & remember your ‘gut’ or ‘nitisiy’ always knows & you will eventually self correct 🥰
Another great language resource that can be found on ulukau.org is Hoʻolaupaʻi #ʻŌleloHawaiʻi Newspaper Collection. Rich documentation from #Hawaiian language speakers between the years 1834 and 1948 nupepa.org #ILAT #IYIL2019 #IndigenousLanguages

In #ʻŌleloHawaiʻi, there are two common words for computer - kamepiula (loanword from English), and lolouila which is a combination of lolo (brain) + uila (electric, electricity, lightning). The second option offers a description in #Hawaiian. Which word would you use? #ILAT
