This was the total solar eclipse that inspired us to launch NationalEclipse.com in 2015. It occurred exactly 9 years ago today, on 8/21/2017. Totality lasted for up to 2 mins and 40 secs and could be seen from Oregon to South Carolina. It was 100% exclusive to the USA.

Now that the AUGUST 12 total solar eclipse is over, the next time a total solar eclipse will occur on AUGUST 12 will be in 2045. Oh, and it happens to be a pretty good one. nationaleclipse.com/maps/map…

If you enjoyed yesterday's total solar eclipse, or if you missed it, your next chance comes in less than a year. On August 2, 2027, a total eclipse will sweep over southern Spain, northern Africa, and the Arabian Peninsula. The maximum duration of totality is 6 min and 23 sec.

People in the U.K. complaining that it didn't get dark. For crying out loud.

The posts by people who have seen a total solar eclipse for the first time are priceless. It's not unusual to see comments like "most spectacular thing I've ever seen in my life." You don't get it until you've seen it.

It's interesting that all of the totality photos in Spain show an orange corona instead of the usual white. This is due to the low altitude of the Sun. Just like a sunset is a different color than the noonday Sun.

Hopefully all the people saying they were gonna view the eclipse without proper eye protection were kidding. Can't remember seeing so much foolishness before an eclipse before. Very strange.

And once again, as with every eclipse, there are reports of unsafe eclipse glasses having been distributed. This is why it's always a must to buy DIRECTLY from reputable and established manufacturers who are well-known to the eclipse and astronomy community.

The amount of confusion and skepticism in Spain about how to safely view a solar eclipse is startling. If you don't know how to safely view a solar eclipse, then don't! It's not worth permanently damaging your eyes. Hopefully nobody does anything stupid.

A wave of solar eclipse excitement is spreading across Europe. But you won't be able to see a TOTAL solar eclipse, which is infinitely more impressive than any other kind of eclipse, unless you're inside this exact path.

There used to be just a couple of interactive eclipse maps and tools. Xavier Jubier's old-school interactive map is probably still the best. Now every day another vibe-coded eclipse app made with AI drops. They usually don't work right or have other obvious errors. Be careful.
