The more AI can code, the more I believe in Rails. Builders need the conventions, tooling, and ecosystem of a batteries-included framework. Building and evolving that framework takes a community collaborating through open source. Engineers have a crucial role: researching and building new tools and platforms. I believe the Rails community is best positioned to do this. I’m excited for the future of Rails and its ecosystem!

With the latest results from the @rails agent evals, it's clear to see that @openai still has a solid lead, despite Opus 5.5 making a good jump. The dark horse here remains Luna Max. 18% completion at just $11! Not that far off GPT-6 Sol!

The slogan "One Person Framework" is more relevant than ever. A single Software Engineer + Agents + Rails is an incredibly fast combination. Nothing else comes close. #ruby #rubyonrails

RubyLLM 2.0 growing to a full-featured AI Framework felt like the perfect moment to redesign the website to communicate that. Big thanks to gotoinc.co's excellent designers, and @onurozer's excellent marketing advice. Was a pleasure to work on this together! rubyllm.com

Database scaling is a common challenge for applications reaching large scale. Vertical scaling works well to a point but can get expensive fast. At #RailsWorld @thoughtbot's @GriffinTess explores the other approach to scaling your database - horizontally with sharding. Where do you start? Which table do you shard on? How do you keep your transactions atomic when they need to cross multiple shards? Tess will show you how to tackle moving your database to a horizontally distributed system in an approachable way. rubyonrails.org/world/2026/s…

Anthropic released a threat report on September 11. China-based actors misused the AI model Claude to target dissidents, religious minorities, and journalists. Catholics, Tibetan Buddhists, Falun Gong practitioners, Taiwanese Christians, and Uyghur activists were all in the crosshairs. Writers for Bitter Winter were included. The operation collected personal data, mapped religious venues, scouted overseas protests in advance, and forced the CCP label of “evil cult.” Anthropic disrupted the campaigns. But the real issue is not that AI was abused. It is that China’s religious repression and overseas surveillance have already reached the stage of using AI to cover a shortage of human agents. Even beyond its borders, faith and reporting are treated as matters of state security.
Anthropic dropped a bomb by revealing that China, not trusting its own AI, hacks Claude and makes him generate massive illegal campaigns targeting dissidents—including Uyghur journalists who write for Bitter Winter bitterwinter.org/anthropic-r…

Shipping skills could soon mean as much as READMEs. As AI writes more, libraries that teach agents to correctly use their APIs will win. Rails Hyperdrive lets gems distribute agent guidance, and getting started just takes Markdown files and a gemspec metadata entry. evilmartians.com/chronicles/…

Rails + AI are a fantastic pair. What's the best model for your needs? We partnered with @rails to benchmark different models and answer that question. The study happened in two stages: - Stage one: Learning how well models understood Rails and performed with atomic tasks. - Stage two: Studying how efficient these models are when solving feature tickets, like a human developer would do. Here's a summary of the findings. Detailed information below.🧵

AWESOME: @digitalocean is joining the Omacom Foundation as a Founding Corporate Patron with a $3 million commitment to the development, maintenance, and spread of Omarchy. This started as a DM on X to @paddix just 1 week ago! Amazing speed of execution. omarchy.org/news/2026/09/dig…

Dr. Hak Ja Han is South Korea’s greatest asset for peace between the two Koreas. North Korean leaders trust her despite (or because of) her anti-communist stance. She is now locked up in South Korea. What mandated the campaign to undermine her work and reputation? Was it President Lee Jae-myung’s ego, or his Chinese handlers who need communist North Korea as a buffer against freedom? Let her go! #ReleaseTheMotherOfPeace washingtontimes.com/news/202…

Today we shared the first results of Agents on Rails, a new, ongoing initiative to measure how well today's leading agentic coding tools (both frontier and open-weight) actually perform on Ruby on Rails codebases. Built by @EvilMartians, commissioned by the Rails Foundation.
