Day 11 - Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer worldwide. Ribbons in October aren’t enough. We need metastatic research to deliver effective, well-tolerated treatments—and save lives around the world. Don’t ignore stage IV. #metavivor #METober

Breast cancer is not a single entity; there are 3 major subtypes and even more molecular subtypes. All can metastasize. They can mutate and switch from one to another (I have at least 2 now, after almost 13 years) MBC is complex. Research saves lives. Don’t ignore stage IV.

My patient has breast cancer. I’m her doctor. I’m in network with her insurance. She wants me to perform her surgery. And yet, after denying our request for me to operate at the facility where I believe she can receive the safest care, @redbudsurgerycenter, her insurance company contacted her and directed her to another doctor. A patient navigating cancer already has enough decisions to make. She should not have to defend her choice of physician because of a disagreement over where that physician operates. Trying to tell a doctor where they can operate is invasive enough. But telling a patient with cancer that she should see a different surgeon, when she has already chosen the doctor she trusts to care for her? That has gone way too far.

Last week, someone said to me: “We should all be living like we’re dying.” Today Abigail (@AMJohnston1315) writes, “Every day is a second chance.” A terminal diagnosis is a reality most will never fully understand. But its lessons about kindness, forgiveness, love & how we choose to live can belong to all of us. #bcsm #metastaticbreastcancer

Reflecting on my 10-year #metaversary. I’m profoundly grateful for this unexpected gift of time, while carrying both the love & the loss of so many friends I’ve had the privilege to know. Their legacy lives on in every conversation, every research proposal, every clinical trial, & every act of advocacy that moves us closer to a day when no one dies of MBC 🩷💙💚 #metastaticbreastcancer #TNBC #bcsm #GriefandGratitude #advocacy #research @metavivor
