Religion of peace? Egyptian taxi driver Yaser Abdel Said shot his Texas-born daughters dead in his cab after they dated non-Muslim boys. ⠀ Amina Said was 18. Sarah Said was 17. On January 1, 2008, he told them they were going out to eat, drove to Irving, and opened fire in the taxi near a hotel. ⠀ Amina was shot twice. Sarah was shot nine times but still got through to a 911 operator: “Help, my dad shot me. I’m dying, I’m dying.” ⠀ Said was born in Egypt in 1957 and drove Dallas cabs. Prosecutors said he treated the girls as property, hated that they refused arranged marriages, and called their American lives a stain on family honor. ⠀ Their mother, Patricia Owens, is American. She later said he had abused her during the marriage. ⠀ Said was on the run for 12 years and made the FBI Ten Most Wanted. His brother Islam helped him hide from the law. Agents grabbed him on August 26, 2020. A Dallas County jury convicted him of capital murder on August 9, 2022. ⠀ Said was sentenced to life without parole.
