agreed. we tried killing them: the card shows up empty, just the frame and the grey box where the creative goes. no grey bars pretending to be text. then the content fills in, top to bottom
same size before and after, so nothing jumps

A belief that really solidified for me this year is that on data-heavy products, you should design the data before the pixels.
Before I draw a component now, I build a small lab: every element numbered, where its value comes from, how it's calculated, a real example next to it.
Then a "worst case" button that throws 1 country, 30 countries, a tie, a name that won't fit, so on and so forth.
Most of the bugs I find in data UIs come from a field nobody checked early.
The good news is, a lab like this takes less than an afternoon, and it's the best handoff doc I've sent to devs.
When we shipped V3 three weeks ago, we left a feature out. Creative Testing. On our dashboards, it had been one of the least used.
Within days, it was one of the most requested.
Same feature. Same users. Opposite signal.
So we talked to the people asking for it back. The ones who used it opened it constantly. Everyone else struggled to get anything out of it. The view was a plain list, a bit dated, and the winners didn't jump out. You had to dig to find what was actually working.
I've noticed low-usage features fall into two buckets: Niche features and Buried features.
Niche features
A small group needs them, uses them a lot, and that's the whole story. The usage number is honest.
Buried features
The need is wide, but the interface hides the answer. People try once, don't see the payoff, and leave. The usage number measures the friction.
What this means for designers
Before you cut something, ask the people who still use it what they open it for. Then ask the people who stopped. When we brought Creative Testing back, we started from one question: when someone checks what a brand is testing, what do they want to see first? That became a calendar you can click to see every creative launched on a given day, and a list where the images come first.
Creative Testing is back on Trendtrack. 💚
Open any shop → Meta → Creative Testing.
→ Every day a brand launched new ads
→ How many are still live, how many got cut
→ A trophy on the days that produced a winner
→ Click a day, see the full batch in a grid

a really good feature can make you switch
