In case you missed it: Women are less likely to be credited for their scientific contributions than men. It’s true across multiple fields & at all stages, with important repercussions for career progress. #WomenInSTEM #WomenInMedicine #MedTwitter nature.com/articles/s41586-0…

Some may be taken aback by your refusal to downplay your capabilities for their comfort. Please, unapologetically claim your right to shine. Your strength, intelligence, and vision are not negotiable. Boldly occupy space, and continue to use your light to pave the way forward. K?

Kudos to Reviewer #3, who closed w/ this: "Praise for the authors: I try to end all of my reviews with areas of the paper I really liked because I know reviews can be hard to read. So here are a few areas of the paper where I thought the writing really shined." 1. __ 2. __ 3. __

What matters is always the discovery, not who made the discovery. It's not that the scientist doesn't matter but the science must always come first.

*when the villain in the movie has a PhD* Viewers without a PhD: Ah, they are just saying he’s a smart villain. Makes sense. Viewers with a PhD: Ah, grad school and academia drove him to madness. Makes sense.

I really wish the world would let go of the myth that truly talented, visionary, passionate people are all 24/7 laser-focused on their work to the detriment of every other aspect of life and their physical and mental well-being.

Best quote from the GRC so far: "No one believes in a model except the person who makes it, and everyone believes in an experiment except the person who performs it"😆 – at Newport, RI

I've been asking my male friends to do something - *watch if the first response to everything a woman tells you is to refute, say no or something negative* One texted me later: Holy f*ck The problem is, constantly putting up with unwarranted resistance is bad for mental health.

Someday I’ll get my paper published. Someday I’ll finish my PhD. Someday I’ll find a job in my field. Those days will come. Today I’ll enjoy where I am and do my best.

My hot take is that if you want to know what the future of a scientific field is going to look like, and more importantly what it SHOULD look like, the people who have the best answers are the young scientists who the future of the field not us grumpy opinionated oldsters.
