I often criticized Lindsey Graham. But this weekend, I learned his full story:
- Orphaned young, he adopted & raised his little sister instead of letting her go into the system.
- Grew up dirt poor, racking balls in his parents’ pool hall.
- In search of opportunity, he joined the Air Force. Served 33 years. Retired a Colonel.
- Then spent decades in Congress, earning respect across the aisle.
- Bashed Trump hard in ~2016, then respected the will of the voters, and grew to become a loyal ally.
- Humble. Devoted to his constituents.
- Driven by patriotism (even when misguided). Never in it for the money. Could've cashed in any time like most of his colleagues.
- That Disney trip everyone mocked? Just a good uncle taking his beloved nieces. He smiled through (and ignored) the hate to protect his family.
RIP to a self-made American original.

Clavicular seems like a smart guy -- by age 30 he'll realize he forgot to include social class in his first-principles life model. Unfortunately by then it will be too late.

This book is a solid introduction to momentum strategies. It's targeted at equities but the principles of momentum translate to virtually any asset class. Highly recommend.

Institutional portfolio evaluation emphasizes return quality, not quantity.
Key considerations:
– Volatility-adjusted return
– Alpha vs. beta attribution
– Tail exposure

The most damaging kind of content you can consume is that which causes you to fantasize about the trappings of wealth.
The work that is going to generate such wealth is likely solitary, monastic, and requires extreme mastery over your pleasure sensors - the opposite of what that type of content is wiring your brain for.
All those reels with cars, watches, stacks of cash etc is a form of masturbation that will only subconsciously violate your willingness to take on long boring high leverage tasks.

Interview Prep Hack: Carry a probability puzzle book with you at all times. Throw it in your bag. Whenever you're bored, work through a puzzle. A great way to get those reps in.

This is a very good probability puzzle book. I must say that the puzzles in here will be much tougher than most interview questions so if you crank some of these bad boys out - you'll be in excellent shape.

Many institutional investors are fickle and chase managers following recent out-performance. As such they follow a "momentum" strategy when selecting hedge funds. This in of itself generates a variety of inefficiencies.

OG quants (ex physicists, aerospace engineers, CFD specialists) oftentimes write better code than CS majors. Reason being, they grew up in an era where C++ was a research language.
