Jewish Federation of British Columbia mourns the tragic loss of four Canadian soldiers at CFB Wainwright. We are especially heartbroken by the loss of Aidan Goulding, z״l, of North Vancouver, a member of our Jewish community whose life was taken far too soon.
This week, our CEO @nshack and Senior Vice President @richardmarceau were proud to join their colleagues from the J7 in the UK to push for action to confront antisemitism and extremism that threaten democratic societies around the world.
In London, the British Foreign Secretary committed to convene a ministerial-level meeting on antisemitism, which will include his counterparts from the U.S., Germany, France, Australia, Argentina, and Canada's foreign minister @AnitaAnandMP.
We look forward to working with @GAC_Corporate to ensure this is a successful meeting that leads to concrete actions.
It is clear that antisemitism is a global scourge that requires western democracies to work together to find solutions.
We are proud to work alongside our J7 counterparts to push for urgent action. The threats we face cross borders, and so must our response.

Three years ago, the terrorist organisation Hamas perpetrated the worst attack against Jewish people since the Holocaust.
My statement:
Today, the Prime Minister said "there is more work to do," after releasing a statement marking three years since Hamas' terror attacks against Israel. CIJA CEO @nshack responded:
“Prime Minister Carney unequivocally condemned Hamas and recognized that October 7 was a Canadian tragedy, taking the lives of Canadians and leaving a Jewish community here at home still deeply impacted by the terrorist attacks and the devastating resurgence of antisemitism that followed."
“We appreciate the Prime Minister’s renewed commitment to strengthen public safety and combat hate, with new laws and resources to stop extremism before it takes root.”

In the @nationalpost , our CEO Noah Shack reflects on the lessons of the Christie Pits Riot, ninety-three years later, and why allyship matters more than ever.
His grandfather was among the many Torontonians who gathered at Christie Pits for what should have been another summer evening of baseball.
Instead, young men unfurled a homemade Nazi swastika banner, shouted “Heil Hitler” and taunted Jewish spectators. Violence soon erupted.
But Jewish Canadians did not stand alone. Italian Canadians joined them in fighting back.
In this powerful piece, @nshack reflects on the importance of confronting the drivers of violence before it’s too late: authorities and elected leaders had ample warning, but the growing acceptance of a foreign extremist ideology allowed hatred to escalate.

TMU’s external review, conducted by the Honourable Mary Lou Benotto in response to violent incidents on campus, delivers a stern warning: these “symptoms of a deteriorating campus climate, absent decisive institutional action, are likely to recur.”
The review also found that TMU already had policies “capable of addressing much of the conduct it examined, but too often failed to apply them consistently and decisively.” That is why CIJA's Legal Task Force is supporting a Jewish student’s lawsuit to hold TMU accountable.
With classes set to resume next month, it is chilling that TMU announced a "Task Force" to "consider and respond" to Justice Benotto's recommendations with an "implementation blueprint" by March 2027.
Students should not be expected to wait for another school year to pass without change. TMU must implement Justice Benotto's recommendations without delay.

I spoke with @wolfblitzer on @CNN today about the most recent shootings in Toronto. This isn’t just a threat to Jews or Canadians, it’s a danger to everyone who wants to live in a safe and free country.
I am glad to have participated in this important gathering of Ontario police leaders, and am deeply appreciative of @ONInspectorate's leadership to fortify the police response to crimes targeting our community. We look forward to supporting the @OACPOfficial and @OAPSB in this critical work.
We welcome today's announcement by @ONInspectorate of seven concrete actions to strengthen how antisemitic and hate‑motivated incidents are policed across Ontario.
While the Jewish community has borne the brunt of these incidents, they threaten safety of all citizens and the values that define our shared Canadian way of life.
We're deeply grateful to the dedicated men and women in uniform who put themselves in harm’s way every day to keep Ontarians safe.
