I'm pleased the majority of MPs decided not to press on with the flawed AD Bill. However, I was astonished that Lauren Edwards did not understand her own Bill and misled others. Twice she said the Bill explicitly did not apply to disabled people - which is simply not true🤦
More democratically elected MPs voted against than for assisted suicide - how is that 'a bad day for democracy'?
Because it didn't give the answer you wanted?
Polly Toynbee also -
“Another bad argument is that the frail will be intimidated into hastening the end of their lives so as not to be a burden on their children. Well, why not? ”
Is that really what we want Parliament to vote for?

Going to Parliament today to vote against the ‘Assisted Dying Bill’ - proposals which end of life care experts call ‘unsanctionable’.
The Bill’s backers told MPs last time: ‘we will improve safeguards/amend’ but railroaded plans & ignored concerns. independent.co.uk/news/uk/po…

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day.
Tomorrow, the House of Commons will vote on passing legislation that would amend the Suicide Act 1961, to legalise medically assisted suicides.
This would greatly undermine suicide prevention efforts. MPs must vote no.

Gifting Chagos to Mauritius would be Andy Burnham’s first unforced error. Paying billions to a foreign country so it can take away our territory is an insane thing to do. We can’t afford this idiocy, says David Paton

The degeneration of Nature, Science, NEJM, and Scientific American into woke propaganda dispensers (and their refusal to publish normie, centrist, common-sense responses) is a scientific scandal.

The Scottish island of Iona, since the time of St.Columba (563 AD), has been one of most significant religious sites in Europe. Because of its solitude and spiritual significance, Iona is where the former Labour Party leader, John Smith, asked to be buried.
To erect, nearby, 91 wind turbines, 1000 feet high, taller than the Eiffel Tower and four times higher than Westminster’s Big Ben, would be an act of desecration and show no regard for the significance and beauty of Iona.
Scottish Power should go back to the drawing board.

Aren’t you the minister for safeguarding women against violence?
And you have to apologise for what you tweeted after a fellow female politician was violently murdered?
Isn’t that a resigning matter?

Politically, Chagos seems like a marginal issue. People may not care much about the islands, but they do care about Govt paying £billions for the privilege of giving them away.
That is why this has cut through.
Chagos will prove an albatross for @andyburnham if he pursues it.
Likewise, many congratulations Father Stephen! And congratulations also to the people of Brighton - a wonderful blessing for you
Congratulations to Fr Stephen.

Not quite the first child, since the Netherlands has been dispatching infants, under the notorious Groningen Protocol, for years.
But still a new and horrible low.

All anyone needs to do is look at countries that have adopted this policy. It has become a slippery slope everywhere. I was once pro, after looking at all the facts & example… I no longer support it. Let’s have better palliative care.
“A ‘right to die’ would inevitably become a ‘duty to die’. In the real world, no legislation can prevent this, which is why the assisted suicide bill is based on an impossible fantasy in an imaginary world.”
