WOW you missed the entire point of who was the butt of the joke here - he was. The point was to show how ignorant, stupid and cruel men often were in the workplace in a sardonic way.
That is NOT the same as what Shane Gillis said on SNL. That joke was against women.

I would love to remind people had some basic media literacy back then. The joke is that a misogynistic Charicature reduced himself to absurdity by calling Jane a slut in response to her well thought out reaponse. The absurdity is why it's funny, not that Jane is a slut.

This joke is about misogyny, it isn’t misogynistic, in the context and time period - It’s also a joke from 50 years ago, and therefore shouldn’t be a litmus test for modern humor

If you need an SNL fix during the off week, check out this fun experiment we did looking at an alternate reality in which Jean Doumanian does NOT get fired in the middle of Season 6.
@ThomasASena & @DeremyDove joined us to discuss and debate this "What If." Who would stay? Who would go? What might the show evolve into and much longer would it even exist?

One of the best stories I'd heard on the making of a movie was when Richard Donner visited Marlon Brando to convince him to play Superman's father, Jor-el. But Donner had known Brando was squirrely and often hard to get a straight answer out of. So when Donner arrived, and began discussing the film, Brando interjected and said he'd play the character as long as it looked like a donut.
Donner was completely confused, with Brando doubling down saying the character was an alien, shouldn't look human, and maybe should look like a donut.
Donner realized Brando's reputation wasn't so much that he was difficult, it was that he loved messing with people. Donner, being a prankster himself, agreed that Jor-El should look like a donut. And that's when Donner noticed the glint in Brando's eye. That day Brando agreed to play the part normally, he just wanted to make sure Donner had a good sense of humor.
We come out of hibernation to talk about an alternate reality in SNL history. "What if" Saturday Night Live DIDN'T fire Jean Doumanian in the middle of S6?
How might things have progressed and what might the show have looked like moving forward? Would it eventually find its footing or would it cease to exist past the 80s?
@ThomasASena & @DeremyDove join to wonder..."What if"
