#OnThisDay in 2014, the earliest human footprints in the whole of Europe were announced. The fossil footprints found in #Happisburgh on the #DeepHistoryCoast are believed to have been made around 900,000 years ago.

#inktober2023 11) Wander. The astonishing Happisburgh footprints . Made c900,000 years ago by a group of adults & (wonderfully) children walking along mudflats on what is now Norfolk. These ephemeral traces of humans are the earliest footprints outside Africa. Mind blowing.
